Apparently, if you want a guest performance comedy nod, do a guest shot on 30 Rock; they've got 80% of the male nominees and 50% of the female.

Three deserving male castmembers of Mad Men made the cut (Hamm, Slattery, Morse), but none of the ladies; I'd have liked to have seen Moss or Hendricks get some recognition.

I've never seen anyone get a nod for Saturday Night Live before.

John Adams cleans up in the miniseries categories, particularly supporting actor; Dillane and Wilkinson I can understand, but Morse is a bit mystifying, honestly; he didn't do much, and I found him kind of stiff.

I'm two episodes into season two of Dexter. So far I think the show is still going strong and has lost none of that cutting edge (ah, ha ha) quality that made the first season such a knockout. Great use of music, sharp writing, strong cast. In particular Michael C. Hall's excellent performance as the title character - given on how much time the show dwells inside his head and is supported by his monologues and expressions the show really could rise or fall on the quality of his work, and I think he excels. It's really no exaggeration to say that, at present, this is my favourite television show - without qualification.

So, yes, I'm happy both series and Hall got nominated. Big surprise there.

I think that Dexter is one of the few dramas were season 2 is actually better than season 1. And for Dexter, that's saying A LOT.

I'm so glad that Dexter and LOST both got nominated. They are highly underrated, in my opinion.

These are the ones I'm most excited about:

Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series House
House - House's Head

Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Robin Williams as Merritt Rook

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
House - Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Lost - Michael Emerson as Benjamin Linus

If James Spader wins again over Hugh Laurie, I'm going to be pissed. :censored:

And since when was there an Emmy for Outstanding Commercial? :wtf:

Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey (come on the character is a geek and knows the fate of the Star Wars characters in the EU!)

I knew BSG wouldn't get a best series nod so no surprise there.

They made a mistake in the listing, though, and The Wire isn't on there. It must be a mistake, right? Because there's no way that show couldn't have been nominated.

Here's who I would really like to see win:
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series
Pushing Daisies
Kristin Chenoweth as Olive Snook

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Lost • Michael Emerson as Ben

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series
How I Met Your Mother
Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson

Outstanding Miniseries
John Adams

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Dexter
Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan

Happy about noms for:

Dexter
Damages
Lost

Lee Pace
Bryan Cranston
Michael C. Hall
Zeljko Ivanek
Michael Emerson
Kristin Chenoweth
Pushing Daisies (Writing, Comedy)
BSG (Writing, Drama)

Unhappy about no noms for:

Pushing Daisies (Best Comedy)
Mary McDonnell (too much to hope for)
Chi McBride (total :wtf:)
Elizabeth Moss
Lost or Dexter (Writing)

Most Hilarious Category Award goes to: Best Miniseries!

John Adams
- the only worthwhile nominee
Cranford - anyone who could slog through this treacle deserves my respect; so cloying and cutesy it makes Jane Austen look like Quentin Tarantino
Tin Man - err, nice acting and production values but the story was nonsense
Andromeda Strain - :wtf: is this the Emmys or the Razzies?

My Should Win (Will Win) predictions

Comedy - 30 Rock (ditto)
Drama - Lost narrowly over Dexter (Mad Men)
Comedy Actor - Lee Pace (Baldwin or Carrell, but Pace could upset)
Drama Actor - Michael C. Hall (John Hamm)
Miniseries Actor - Paul Giametti (ditto)
Drama Actress - Glenn Close (ditto)
Miniseries Actress - Laura Linney (ditto maybe but Phylicia Rashad's got a shot)
Miniseries - John Adams (ditto)
Drama Supporting Actor - Michael Emerson (ditto)
Miniseries Supporting Actor - flip a coin for any of the three John Adams nominees
Comedy Supporting Actress - Kristin Chenowith (ditto)
Comedy Writing - Pushing Daisies (?)
Drama Writing - Damages (either Damages or one of the Mad Men nominees)

Dillane and Wilkinson I can understand, but Morse is a bit mystifying, honestly; he didn't do much, and I found him kind of stiff.
I was impressed as much by Morse as the other two. Morse had the harder role - not flashy, very interior. He totally convinced me why a low-key guy like Washington could command such respect in both military and political matters.

I've seen performances before that brought Jefferson and Franklin to life, but this is the first time I've seen anyone do the same with Washington. Both the acting and the writing deserve credit.

I'm happy to see a lot of fresh names and good series getting recognized this year. Of course, BSG and Lost deserved more nominations than they got. And how James Spader, William Shatner and "Boston Legal" manage to get nominations year after year puzzles me to no end.

Bah.

"The Wire" better win for best writing, because it's a crying shame that show was never nominated for best drama - especially for Season 1 and Season 4.

Outstanding Comedy Series
30 Rock
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Entourage
The Office
Two And A Half Men

Only the last one is a comdey show. The rest are sad.

But big ups for Flight of the Conchord's nomination. Hopefully they get to perform at the ceremony.

Anyone else have a problem with Justice League: New Frontier nominated for "Best Animated Program - One Hour or More" simply because you can watch it On-Demand?

Outstanding Comedy Series
30 Rock
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Entourage
The Office
Two And A Half Men

Only the last one is a comdey show. The rest are sad.

I tried watching Two and a Half Men once. By the middle of it, I was trying to saw my head off. How that show is nominated, let alone popular, is beyond me.

I love Boston Legal, but it baffles me that they are listed as a drama, when it clearly is a comedy that has a few dramatic moments sprinkled in. It belongs next to 30 Rock or Curb Your Enthusiasm--NOT Dexter and LOST.

I'm happy to see a lot of fresh names and good series getting recognized this year. Of course, BSG and Lost deserved more nominations than they got. And how James Spader, William Shatner and "Boston Legal" manage to get nominations year after year puzzles me to no end.

Once you start getting nominated, as long as you're on the air you tend to keep getting nominated, regardless of whether or not you deserve be.
