Er, yes, that was the point. What I wrote was, Under the Skin is to Species as Never Let Me Go is to The Island: same basic story ideas, vastly different executions (artsy vs. popcorn blockbuster).

No, it's a rental if anything for me, though I don't doubt that it's one of those movies that would lose a lot if not seen projected, either in a theater or at home, and I'm plum out of home projectors. This thread did, however, cause me to check if Species is on Netflix Instant (alas, no).
