I agree with Dennis and James. The OGAM Producers are really pushing their luck on this. No matter how you try and pretty it up, the way the emails are worded is a blatant advert for OGAM with the item that's being sold pretty much an afterthought. The intent is obvious. I remember at one point the item you had to buy was a poster. Thin ice indeed.

Well you know I respect all 3 of you and the work you have done. I don't find any issue with a studio trying to recoop some of the costs of production or trying to find a way of providing a dvd to those that can't watch online. Problem is it's 'Star Trek', and we know all to well about these issues. Well I don't know what else to say, the decision is not mine.

And I personally appreciate it. I'd have bought Inalienable regardless, the extra DVD was just an extra bonus. I personally think if Paramount was smarter, it would make arrangements with fan filmmakers, perhaps some kind of profit sharing deal.

At any rate, I think more of these productions should be available on DVD.

If that. Not only is it blatantly illegal, it's defiant of the terms under which the studio has continued to tolerate fan films in general and as such is dangerous to the other groups who do refrain from this kind of selling. The producers of OGAM know that and simply don't care.

It will be interesting to see if Disney is as hard on the Marvel Comics Fan Films as a lot of people predicted they will be. Also, to see if they go along with the reboot of Spiderman when the older Spidey was still making tons of money. JJA of course, had to come out publically for a reboot. Surprise surprise! (Gomer, go back to TV!)

Well I think the bigest joke is the notion CBS would actually do a Star Trek series in the near future, or any scifi show for that matter. I think, over the next few years, they will want to keep all of Star Trek's branding power concentrated on on Star Trek 12 (and possibly 13) rather then throw a series into that mix as well.

Actually, I think that's correct. I don't think we are likely to see a new Trek series until Abrams is done with a trilogy. Although we'll probably start hearing official murmurings between 2 n 3.

The only block to that senario is is Trek 12 bombs badly and they abandon 13 (and hopes of a tv series as well) . With Abrams, Orci etc.. and there track record I can't see that happen at all, but it is a variable to be concidered.

I'm joking because I don't think it's likely, but I like Abrams's version of Star Trek a lot.

OTOH, I'd just as soon that they don't dilute the brand by doing another Trek TV series for many years, if ever.

OGAM was a bit of a mess in my opinion. Way too many "fanboy" elements pushed into a muddled plot. Uhura marrying Stonn (the jerk from Amok Time) at the end was over the top.

I also felt that both Koenig and Nichols were out of their element here and I adore both of them. Koenig was much better in his New Voyages/Phase II episode. Nichols just looked...confused a lot of the time.

Grace Lee Whitney was her usual robotic self --- the same one from Voyager's Flashback.

And why Garrett Wang??? His acting is below even fan film quality.

Nevertheless, hats off to everyone involved in this production -- it was a monumental effort and this fan did appreciate it.

The only thing "Quality" about JJA Trek is the amount of money spent.

That said, the fan films are doing some real interesting things - given what Paramount has done from time to time in the past with Trek, I don't think the suits are qualified to do "quality control." Abrams's movie wasn't made by studio lawyers, you know.

Amen. The suits are suits. They are good at what they do. They don't know jack shit about storytelling, or they would be doing that instead.

I admire the work of the people behind fan films, but OGAM really didn't amount to much IMHO. Leaving aside any of the issues Dennis raised, I watched the first part and wasn't interested in watching the rest. That's just one opinion and YMMV.

FWIW, I found the destruction of Vulcan (years before Abrams did it) pretty "fascinating." I also enjoyed following the missile trajectory rather than looking at it from the ship or the planet.

You did a good job, that shot came out great. Abrams saw that shot and then decided that he would blow up (or implode in his case) Vulcan also! LOL

I loved this production! For anyone complaining about the special effects but also likes TOS, I leave this contradiction in terms for you to contemplate! If anything I thought the lower level special effects, on what was a non-profit production, helped it to fit well with the TOS. They weren't that bad anyway, still better than TOS in my opinion.

I thought the acting was brilliant! What's everyone's problem with Garett Wang? He fit the role perfectly, coming across as decidedly sinister. Walter Koenig was so believable as the rebel, I didn't even realize it was Chekhov for a while. Some great cameos in there too including Ethan Phillips and Tuvok.

This story was great and I wish they would include it in the official Star Trek universe and put it out on DVD in stores so it'll be widely available. Honestly, what's not to like about this production? It's not like it was a TV network with lots of money backed production. It was done by people who love Star Trek wanting to give something back to the fans. Some fans on here complaining on and on about it seems to me shooting a gift horse in the mouth!
