Odo's Bucket

I just got done watching "The Story Teller" again because something bothered me thinking back to the episode and it was just reinforced... Jake, Nog, and Varis Sul are looking for trouble and they decide to steal Odo's bucket.
Now, why would they think to do such an uncool thing like that? That is his home man. His bucket is all he has...then Nog had it filled with oatmeal... totally disrespecting Odo's home. Then they all laugh about it and such and they all eventually laugh it off. If someone came and took over my home and filled it with oatmeal it would piss me off. You don't do that man. They just look at it as a bucket... but that is his home... his property... the place where he regenerates.. or sleeps... whatever it is.
I think there should of been far more outrage about how disrespectful the kids were... totally... breaking and entering.. destruction of personal property... a man's home!

Am I too worked up about it? I dunno.. I don't think so... that is soooo wrong.

Well, kids are kids. If given free rein, the average early teen would happily cut homes, pets and babysitters to pieces with a chainsaw and have a good laugh about it all. Thinking is pretty much optional at that age.

And Odo is relatively thick-skinned. He's been a specimen in a jar for most of the life he remembers, after all; being the laughing stock of some kids is hardly going to measure on the same scale.

What I'm more worried about is that Nog was able to break into Odo's office/home and get to that bucket. Odo is supposed to care about security. Sure, he's never been able to secure all the substandard Cardassian doors against the expert lockpicking fingers of the resident Ferengi. But his own security office should certainly be an exception! What if Nog had placed a bomb in there? Or hacked into records? Or released somebody from the holding cells? Or stolen some of the deputies' guns?

Of course, Odo could have set it all up. He would be quite likely to know the whereabouts of Varis the VIP all the time, and might want to see what she was up to, before stepping in. Who knows, perhaps he also turned off some of the security features of his office for this purpose?

I think the whole point is that the bucket doesn't mean that much to him, it's just so he doesn't come into contact with the dirty floor when in his gelatinus state.

Yeah but for his entire existence to that point.. that is all he had man. I dunno... seems like... sure it is "just a bucket" to everyone else... but that is his castle... and they just think of it as nothing. If I were Odo.. I would of been upset. Then again... maybe he didn't care I guess... I dunno. Just thought it would be something interesting to ponder for the Trek fan crew.

Maybe Odo doesn't trust anybody to clean his home so he let it go.
Honestly I don't think the writers really gave it any thought, it was too early to get all the info in. So by the time we have enough information and love for the characters, it's too far gone and too small a thing to bring up again.
