October Art Challenge - B.J.'s entry

Thought I'd get this in before it gets too late. I'm taking the real-world route on this month's theme. Obviously it's a work-in-progress.

@Rattrap: The final image will be bigger.

I cleaned up the original sketch somewhat (especially the pitot tube!) and added some base color. Next on the list will be shading.

*sigh*

Well, here's what may be the final entry, unless there are any improvements anyone can think of!

no looks good to me :)

but im sure he wont be smiling when he finds out he aint ever going to space

Was it a pitot tube? I thought it was some sort of aerodynamic device or antenae. I mean, regular airplanes do well with far smaller pitot tubes.

Anyway, all drawings look nice.

I like the cute/cartoon designs you do. Makes me think of a Star Trek "Cars" or "Thomas the Tank Engine" like movie/show would be like.

:)

If you look at pictures of experimental and test aircraft, you'll see that most of them have long probes attached to their nose. That's so that they can get air data that isn't disturbed by the aircraft itself. The smaller probes on production aircraft have to be carefully calibrated (using the test data) in order to compensate for whatever disturbances the aircraft makes.

And thanks for the comments! :)
