Ocean Question.

Where in the world is the largest contiguous section of Ocean that doesn't have any islands?

I am wondering because I am writing a short story where a person goes down in a plane in that area and despite escaping on a life raft they end up dying but someone finds their journal.

I think it is called Point Nemo. By nature of the definition, you form a circle upon the ocean with three points of contact with land. The centre of circle is point Nemo.

I would have said the middle of the North Pacific, between the Kergulens(sp?) Hawaii and the Canadian West coast

Another possible is the South Pacific between Hawaii, Norfolk and Easter Islands.

I was going to say the northern pacific between hawaii and the aleutian island chain, but Jadzia's point Nemo looks pretty open too.
