The CGI was amazing in "The Vulcan Hello" and "Battle at the Binary Stars". It’s been consistently mediocre in the following episodes.

Ah, I must be thinking of something else, but I was sure there was something different concerning the first two episodes different to the rest of the series.

Yup. Some people wonder why we don't see more of the Klingon/Federation War. I think that unless it's something that's specifically driving the story forward, we don't need to see it. I like that they credit the audience to be smart enough to fill in the blanks in their heads or use their imagination.

If Discovery gets into a battle and we're seeing it, it's for a specific reason. It's not there because "We have to get into a Battle of the Week with an Alien of the Week".



That's the only serious issue I have with DSC. The focus is too narrow. But, I give it a free pass because I know they're not going to be focusing on the Klingon War forever. And I love the way they've left things "Into the Forest".

What story? I never figured out what this show is about. If this is the story of Michael Burnham, then I don't care about or like her enough to keep watching. If this is the story of a Klingon-Federation War, then I need to see more of it to get invested. And it is hard to use my imagination to fill in the blanks, when we are simply told that the Discovery is the secret weapon that's turning the tide of the war, when we've only seen it in battle 3 times, with mixed results. Lorca doesn't strike me as being a brilliant tactician, Burnham doesn't come across as a logical human, and Discovery is not much of a battleship. So what's this show really about?

It's about Michael Burnham inadvertently starting a war with the Klingons, being sentenced to prison, and then being transferred to Discovery by Lorca who wants to recruit her for her unconventional thinking and because he's a pragmatist. He wants the best people, regardless of their past. He also takes advantage of Stamets' spore drive and exploits it to give Discovery an edge during this war with the Klingons who want Discovery's spore drive. Onboard the ship, Michael has to get used to the crew and the crew have to get used to her.

That's what it's about so far. Whether or not it's a viewer's cup of tea depends on the viewer. I like this particular flavor and I want more.

Lorca isn't an Eisenhower or a Patton. I see him as being more like a Theodore Roosevelt. He loves the game, he loves the glory, he's also a progressive yet he was also a hunter. He wanted to push ahead but he wasn't exactly bloodless. He was a Rough Rider.
