Observation Deck

Good images, another example of an early first season 1 attempt to make the show more crew-friendly and interesting. It would have been nice to see that smaller screen in the rec room all the time.

Well, in addition to the appearance in the "Briefing Lounge" in the second pilot, the small screen was in all four First Season appearances of the "regular" Rec Room. It disappeared for both Second Season Rec Room appearances. (The screen had been moved over onto the Transporter Room set--back behind the transporter console.)

So, it appears in 75% of the redressed Briefing Room Rec Room episodes.

I think it's safe t say that they always wanted to do more and would have happily done so given a bit more time and money. Hell, if their budget had stayed steady throughout the three seasons that alone could have made a difference.

I have read that one of the reasons there were not many window/starfield-backdrop scenes is that the backdrop would have to be some distance back from the set window in order to look believable, and stage space was at a premium.

But, I dunno. I wasn't there.
