Surely Skaro was black and white in the classic series. But then there's also the multiple Skaro theory, that one was destroyed in Remembrance of the Daleks, but it was either a decoy or another planet became the homeworld.
As for Gallifrey, I didn't know it was seen from space in the classic series. Calling my fandom into question

Actually Gallifrey is hollow. In "The Invasion of Time" the Dr. explained that long ago Rassilon had placed a black hole (known as The Eye of Rassilon) in the core of the planet to power their godlike (not the term he used) technology.
And speaking of the Eye of Rassilon, has anyone noticed the excessive number of things on Gallifrey named for Rassilon. The Eye of Rassilon, the Key of Rassilon, I expected the Dr. to take time out to visit the Toilet of Rassilon (also known as the Throne of Rassilon...).

Hmm, could Galifrey be a smallish gas giant with a rocky core? So that the gravity-producing part is in fact much smaller in diameter..
