Rumor: Ewan McGregor Has Signed for Obi-Wan Kenobi Series on Disney+
Cinelinx has the latest update on the possible Obi-Wan Kenobi series. They’re not the kind of site to come out there with a scoop without doing their due diligence, and they have two separate sources backing this claim. So it sounds like it could very well be accurate, but we’ll stay cautiously optimistic just to be safe. Keep in mind that the rumor is only that Ewan McGregor has signed on to star in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but any announcement happening at D23 is mere speculation on our part.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me for the 197th time... Well, I'm a Star Wars fan.

Considering the fact that I’ve never heard of and get a database error when bringing this “Cinelinx” site up that your link references, I’m going to call bullshit on this rumor and continue to hold this in the “awesome idea but I’ll believe it when I see it” column.

The link worked for me, but yeah... I'll believe it when I see it. D23 is next week so I guess we'll find out soon. Hopefully it's true.

The link worked for me, too, but I've never heard of that site before.

I would love this rumor to be true, but I won't believe it until it's actually announced. If we don't hear anything from D23, then it's bullshit.

Fingers crossed.

Can't say I've heard of Cinelinx either, but SlashFilm pretty much called them legit.

This is not a new rumour. It's been floating around since the streaming service was announced. Like the 'Kenobi' movie rumour before it, this is less an actual rumour and more of a "here's a logical thing for LF to do at some point" type of educated guess/wishful thinking.

Not sure I see a point in a Kenobi series? Creepy old man keeps an eye on a kid for twenty years in a desert wasteland?

Cramming “adventures” into that time period just reminds me of Discovery and Michael Burnham all over again.

Well, we did already got the Kenobi book, and the Disney canon comics have done 3 or 4 Kenobi on Tattooine stories, so it's not a new concept.

Still doesn’t make it a good idea.

Exactly. There’s a lot of reporting with all sources leading back to an untried source. It could absolutely be true. I’m just not going to get excited about it until it’s officially official.

Very reasonable perspective to have on it.

My guess is Disney is waiting to officially announce it at their D23 event in one week. Confirming it on the record in any way now would preemptively announce it before they plan to do it. But with all the people involved in this a lot of off the record confirmations are happening. It’s possible Disney will maintain official silence for the next week or maybe make a partial reveal to regain control of their own news.

Skepticism for Hollywood news on the Internet is always healthy. But so much of the bogus stuff is completely ignored by Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. Both of which are confirming this. There is something to this. But celebrating can wait. ;)

EDIT Long time Lucasfilm employee Steve Sansweet just shared this on Facebook. https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/ob...VyHkNubKu-bCrwxb3EKgnmWKSUvLGAV32iJnqMIsCYw5g I AM Celebrating!!
