Obama wants a white house screening?

Leonard Nimoy on NPR last year said he was at a Chicago Democratic fundraiser before Obama ran for President and Obama noticed Nimoy and gave the Vulcan salute to him.

Oh and one point Newsweek said that Obama thought his wife's belt looked like a star trek communicator and shouted into her belt something about dilithium crystals.

The fact he knows what a Dlithium Crystal is is pretty good 'Trek cred I'd say.

I think that happened on the night of his Primary win. Michelle was wearing her favorite belt which kinda looks "spacey", and Obama spotted it before they went out to greet the crowd. he bent down, poked at the belt, and said, "Ooh, dilithium crystals! Beam me up, Scotty!"

I am paraphrasing. it's in one of the articles I read about that night. I'll try to find the link sometime.

yeah, he's a Trekkie. not obsessed, but, I suspect, a slightly more than casual one.
He's enough of a fan that The Onion has made a running gag of his geekiness.

That just means the speech writers are.

But the president wouldn't say it if it weren't his sentiments as well.

John Kennedy's casual mention that he enjoyed Fleming's "James Bond" novels did a lot for them in the United States. Given the current high popularity of our President, this kind of interest could do nothing but help Trek.

Yeah, I watched a documentary about Ian Fleming and they mentioned that his books weren't that popular in the U.S. until Kennedy made that comment.

Since we are in the topic of Obama and Trek...
Trekmovie should send a interview request to the White House and ask if Mr. President would have 15 minutes to spare for an interview. They could do it via email or something. Would be very cool :)...

ZOMG, MR ROCKSTART PRESIDENT!!!! TELL US WHAT YOU TINK OF TEH TREK!!!!!!!

Whatever

There's a rumor that a senate vote was delayed because Bob Dole wouldn't leave a White House screening of The Delta Force way back when.

Obama is indeed a Trekkie. Right now he's contemplating if he wants to use his free assassination passes on Berman and Braga.

Nah, he has to save those passes for people that talk during the screening.

Just so long as Obama doesn't put on pointy ears and hold a special press conference on opening day...

Obama will be attending the screen in his full Star Trek Captain's Uniform, complete with toy phaser and tricorder. And so will everyone else...by official presidential decree.

I just hope the President can restrain himself from posting a bunch of spoilers on the internet.

was there ever a sisko/dax kiss? that would have been great.
In "Through the Looking Glass", if I'm not mistaken.

Now for the Ubergeek response:

Nope... the kiss (actually the sex) was between Sisko and the unjoined alt. Universe Jadzia. There would be no reason to call her old man because she was never joined to the Dax symbiont.
Whoops, you're right. I stand corrected. The only other possible I could think of off the top of my head was "Facets", but that encounter was decidedly un-kissy, as I recall.

Is anyone else thinking about that episode of The West Wing right now?

Oh and iirc President Obama has said his love of 'Trek came from watching TOS reruns after school with his Grandpa in Hawaii.

Oh hey, be fair now. Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were both known for being movie buffs, and reporters were openly invited to ask them film questions. Star Wars, Back to the Future, Dirty Harry, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc. etc. etc...

If John McCain were a Trekkie and he won in 2008, it would be perfectly reasonable for someone to ask the same questions on this thread. He's had cameos in many films, and if "24" (a show that McCain was most definitely in) was turned into a film, anybody would be free to ask him his thoughts. It's not far-fetched.

Rock Star President indeed.

Ehh so whats the big deal? he wants to see TREK without the hassle of going to a movie theater, I dont blame him, if I had my choice I'd see this movie at home too!(being president sure has some perks!)

The talking head on the radio today made a comment about how he had heard that president obama has requested an advanced screening of this film at the white house...

That would be awesome. :)
I saw an interview with President Obama where they (Jay Leno?) talked about being in "the bubble" of presidential security. He talked about not being able to go to a movie theater, but the White House can request any movie they want from the MPAA so it has its perks. :vulcan:

Why shouldn't we be interested in what he thinks? We even read your posts.
