Obama wants a white house screening?

Obama is indeed a Trekkie. Right now he's contemplating if he wants to use his free assassination passes on Berman and Braga.
Who shulde he ''take-out'' after B&B? you know he only get's 3 of those passes! I'd like to suggest ''LES MOONVES''

They say Obama is something of a Trekkie. But I don't know if this is true. But I mean, being the President gotta have its perks. I know I would give an order to get me the film before everyone else if I were him... ;)

I don't think it's in the purview of Executive Privilege to issue a Presidential Order for an advanced screening of the latest star Trek film. :guffaw:

I was trying to joke... But wouldn't it be easier for all of us people fretting about the future of the franchise if he just issued an executive order that compelled every US citizen to see the film in a theater? Sort of a Star Trek stimulus package?

John Kennedy's casual mention that he enjoyed Fleming's "James Bond" novels did a lot for them in the United States. Given the current high popularity of our President, this kind of interest could do nothing but help Trek.

Just so long as Obama doesn't put on pointy ears and hold a special press conference on opening day...

well, now that Kal Penn is gonna be working for the Prez, they might as well invite best buddy John Cho over and have a real screening.

Leonard Nimoy on NPR last year said he was at a Chicago Democratic fundraiser before Obama ran for President and Obama noticed Nimoy and gave the Vulcan salute to him.

Oh and one point Newsweek said that Obama thought his wife's belt looked like a star trek communicator and shouted into her belt something about dilithium crystals.

The fact he knows what a Dlithium Crystal is is pretty good 'Trek cred I'd say.

I think that happened on the night of his Primary win. Michelle was wearing her favorite belt which kinda looks "spacey", and Obama spotted it before they went out to greet the crowd. he bent down, poked at the belt, and said, "Ooh, dilithium crystals! Beam me up, Scotty!"

I am paraphrasing. it's in one of the articles I read about that night. I'll try to find the link sometime.

yeah, he's a Trekkie. not obsessed, but, I suspect, a slightly more than casual one.

he should slip a Surak quote into a speech... like "I am pleased to see that we have differences. May we together become greater than the sum of both of us."

I never did see a photo showing the belt, but I do remember seeing several articles about it a few weeks ago, as well as a couple of threads at TBBS.

I was thinking that he should invite the king of Jordan.

The important thing is, if this movie tanks Obama will just bail the studio out and give them some TARP money to make Star Trek XII! ;)

The talking head on the radio today made a comment about how he had heard that president obama has requested an advanced screening of this film at the white house...

Was he full of shit or is this a real thing?:vulcan:

Neither and not uncommon.

Presidents often get to see movies early, as they have to be screened at the White House thanks to security concerns (and more than one sitting president has HATED this fact because it makes "going to the movies" impossible)

And Obama is a known Trekkie. He gave the Vulcan salute to Nimoy while on the campaign trail and has referred to Trek, Star Wars, and other sci fi movies and books numerous times in his speeches.
As does the US Navy submarine forces. If a sub is going away for a standard six month deployment, Hollywood supplies new releases for the crew.

Do you think Bush watched "W" at the white house? He probably invited his friends and we know who were the only three that showed up. Rice had to serve the popcorn.

I'm not sure about GWB, but apparently Clinton was an avid movie watcher that had many films screened in the White House.
