To be fair, you think everything sounds awful. So that doesn't mean too much. It's like "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" with you.
I just think it sounds cringey... and redundant. The Eternal Ensign is what we have Harry Kim for.

I'm sure Spiner didn't want it and they gave in to his demands.
In story, he may have changed them so not to be confused with Data, or just spite.
This is actually a human named Lore, Noonien's other long lost son that he thought disappeared. He built Lore in memory of human Lore. That way we can get one more character out of Spiner this series.
