nx class vessels

Did we ever actually see an active Daedalus class in any of the shows or movies?
Nope. The closest was a model in Sisko's office (or elsewhere on DS9; I'm not 100% sure on that), and it was never identified on screen as such.

I never had a problem with Greg Jein's conjectural model of the Daedalus-class being "grandfathered-in" as what the design really looked like, but then I kind of regarded it as being more of a deep-space science vessel or a freighter...

...And even the novels treated the Daedalus class as such, until (apparently) the most recent Romulan War books.

Our single canon Daedalus reference, from TNG "Power Play", doesn't tell us much about what sort of ship she was - basically all we get is a crew count of some 220. Some nondescript TOS ships were declared to be of this class in the Encyclopedia, and early ENT books support the notion, again without suggesting that these ships would have been formidable combatants or anything comparable to the NX class otherwise.
