Had to be. A starship CAN NOT be at warp 0.8 and still have the Earth and the spacedock that close behind it. The shots were shown out of sequence for dramatic effect. I'm not over-thinking, you're under-thinking.

This is new JJTrek, he really doesn't give a fuck about showing scenes out of sequence to make it more scientifically believable. Yes it might not make complete sense in OldTrek terms, but if you asked JJ or the scriptwriters:
"did you put that warp scene out of sequence", they would laugh at you. And I might join them.
Shown out of sequence???


And if you NEED a geeky/Trekky answer to make yourself feel better... maybe Warp 0.something in the NuTrek universe means nothing until it hits warp 1, and that's when the ship zooms off into warp. Like it's building towards lift off.
