Now that we know the title of the movie IS Star Trek...

...., shouldn't it be time to rename the forum? Trek XI, to me, still indicates that this is a continuation of what has gone before and we all know that, dispite people trying to synch this movie up with every rediculous "alternate timeline" theory, it's not! If it would clear up confusion, then title it Star Trek (2009). Like it or not, this movie is a fresh start. Let the forum illustrate that.

No, I disagree. The storyline is based on the history of events from TOS and everything that got us to where we are today.

Nero wouldn't go back in time to defeat Kirk/Federation if Kirk/Federation didn't do everything they did from TOS to the movies to TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and TNG movies. Why would Nero try to kill Kirk if there wasn't a history to do so.
Therefore, since ST1 to 10 all contribute to Nero having issues with Kirk/Federation, it makes sense to call this ST11

Calling it Star Trek 2009 suggests the events of this movie are a fresh start that has no direct linkage to anything that happend in 2008 and prior and that is not true.

I'm wondering if a time will come that all of this will be moved to the generic "Star Trek Movies" forum...it'll probably need to happen someday.

...I mean, 2 years from now why should this movie still be singled out from the rest of the films?

Actually it just suggests that the title of the movie is simply "Star Trek".

I would stick with Star Trek XI, if only for the sake of movie-numbering continuity.

Besides, the film is probably going to be named Star Trek XI in a handful of other countries, too :)

I think this movie needs 2 separate forums.

One for the sensible people who understand that this is just a movie.

And another one for the crazy people who think that Trek will forever be ruined because Kirks eyes are a different color and the new Enterprise is totally unrecognizable!

It'll happen shortly after the movie comes out, once discussion has died down.

"Nemesis" had its own forum for a while when it first came out as well.

yes -- but by that time we will have the Star Trek XII forum.

In that case, the Trek XI forum will still be gone.

:guffaw:

Howabout this with a subtitle as a brain swiss-cheeser..:

Star Trek: The one that came after the one that started it all, but takes place before the one that started it all, but is the one that started it all but isnt really the one that started it all because the one that started it all... err... Started it all.

I think it'll be the same forum with a set redress. All of the uniquely Trek XI stuff will be packed up in cardboard boxes and crates and shipped over to Movies, where it will be stacked in a corner and picked at and rifled through sporadically for the spare change in the seat cushions. Hang some new stuff on the walls and rearrange the furniture and Voilà! -- Trek XII forum. :D

Meanwhile, I don't really see an urgent need for a name-change. As it stands, everyone's pretty clear what movie it's about.

From what I've heard, all the shows and movies before 2009 will need to become sub-headings in a Star Trek Prime (universe) section.

Really, what have you heard? Where have you hreard it from? You want to back that up, please, with some facts as opposed to the absolutely unconfirmable "from what I've heard" rhetoric?

All I've heard is that the writers and producers have made a concerted effort to keep this film as canonical as possible while still appealing to to a larger audience.

So... I'm waiting. I'm waiting for you and everyone else to come up with some verfiable information about a movie that won't be out for seven months, that has only released one real trailer and for the film and that no one knows anything about other than a couple of tech upgrades. Come up with something beyond idle specualtion and the regurgitating of other people's bullshit speculation to prove that this film will be such a major violation of canon that it can not be considered canon within the realm of the regular Star Trek Universe.
