Now that its done...

Yeah my thoughts echo Starkers....it's a must watch again. I'd rank it up with Series Fourth (which is my favorite of the Tennant/RTD era) and Series One. Just overall I think the quality of the series was spectacular. Matt and Karen have terrific chemistry and work well together as does Arthur. Moffat knows exactly what he's doing with this character and how to write adventures that are impactful and allow Matt to act. I love RTD unlike the majority on the forum it seems but Moffat's the man. IMO there was only one real big dud of an episode and that was "Victory of the Daleks" as I've mentioned before other than that i think this series has had the most quality of episodes out of the five total (including the specials).

Best season ever, bar none.
Agreed. The writing let some episodes down, as well as the character of Amy specifically on occaision, but when it was good it was a joy to behold. And when it was great... just :techman:

I wouldn't be at all surprised if next series tops it however, since it'll have a chance to work out the first season kinks.

I agree...every episode did matter or seemed related to the overall arc in some way and that's my favorite kind of television story telling. Even the stand alone episodes seemed connected as well. I think next series is going to be fantastic as well and remember we've got Gaiman's two episodes!!!

Fantastic!

Season 5 was better than I imagined. Some episodes I've liked and some episodes I flat-out loved. There was never an episode I hated or disliked. Matt Smith aced in his performance as the Eleventh Doctor and I can't wait to watch more episodes of him, Amy, and especially Rory who's proven to be more than a Mikey type character in the last two episodes. River Song was great as always and I'm really hoping we get to see the beginning of the relationship between the Doctor and present River Song instead of future River Song although the writers may postpone that for a while leaving us with more delicious visits by future River Song.

Brilliant. I originally thought that "Victory of the Daleks" was the one blight on the season but after rewatching it it really does set up quite a bit. We get the first clear indication that something is different with Amy because she cannot remember the Daleks. We also get the setup for Rory. A fabrication created with so many memories that it was made just a little too perfect that it was able to hold onto it's humanity. It may not have been the best overall episode but it really did introduce some very key plot points.

Best season of new Who by far. I much prefer Moffat's approach & Smith's more traditional doctor..

Same, my thoughts exactly, Matt Smith seems more like a traditional Doctor from the old days, yet with a touch of modernism, it works real well and brings me back to why Doctor Who is so awesome to watch. S5 is the best yet. As a poster above said I think the next season will be even better since this was the first one to work out all the kinks.

I originally thought, how are they going to replace Tennant. Then Matt Smith blew my mind. An added plus, this Doctor gets it done without all of the "technobabble". The writers had David Tennant say some things that would make Berman and Braga over at the old TV Trek proud.

Thinking about this type of format for a TV show makes me sad for old Star Trek TNG episodes that served no purpose at all.

"Oh, will we revisit that alien spore that made everyone sick?"

"NO!"

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

This season was mediocre at best.

Matt Smith is a brilliant actor and a good Doctor. But that's all I'll give this season.

A reset button. No explanations for the causation for the TARDIS explosion, why The Doctor sent River to the TARDIS in the first place, no emotional resonance for Amy or her parents . . .

Swings and roundabouts, I know. But there are holes in the plot and nothing makes sense. You've all come here to say you love it, with no reason given. I'm here to say I don't and I've stated why.

Also, I liked the fez.

I find it easier to *rewatch* the original series over all others though. I like arcs but they do make it harder to just sit down and watch an old episode sometimes.

I'm glad all of those things were not wrapped up in a neat little bow. There are some things left unanswered but overall the plot makes perfect sense. They stopped the cracks and rebooted the universe. Now they have to find out what it was. The Doctor even mentions that he can't rest because something is still out there. Something that drew the Tardis to this time and place and blew it up.

It's like getting a cliffhanger without it actually being a cliffhanger. It sets up either the Christmas special or the next season as a whole. Its actually refreshing knowing that there are still some unanswered questions even though the "main" problem has been dealt with.

I can understand if it is not your cup of tea, but saying that nothing makes sense is just plain wrong.

- If episodes unhappened, why did Moffat make me watch them by filming them in the first place? If he didn't want them to happen, maybe he shouldn't have made them?

- Why did Vincent have to paint the TARDIS exploding, to give it to Winston Churchill to hide it in the Royal Gallery to get River to steal it from a now 3,000 year old Liz Ten to get the Doctor to Stonehenge? Most people go there on holiday . . .

- Why did the TARDIS reroute Churchill's call to River? The TARDIS has no problem forwarding all other calls for the remainder of the story? It's almost as if it's just writer fiat.

- How does reigniting the universe mend the TARDIS? Wouldn't it simply explode again?

- To whit why didn't the Big Bad just re-detonate the TARDIS?

- Why didn't Amy remember The Doctor immediately upon waking up? She remembered her parents swiftly.

- Why did The Doctor send River Song to his TARDIS to get equipment to help open the Pandorica when the Pandorica was already opening?

- Why did Auton Rory shoot Amy, but then manage to pull himself together to guard her for 2,000 years?

- Why would real Rory remember anything if he died in Cold Blood?

- Why did all the stars explode?

- Why would a TARDIS exploding cause all the stars to explode?

-Why did the Alliance steal Amy's memories from June 26, 2010? Why that date?

- How did the Alliance know Amy was the Doctor's companion most likely to lull him into a false sense of security?

- If the Alliance could build the Pandorica, why can't they seal the cracks themselves?

- How can a vortex manipulator make a Pandorica fly?

- Who made the TARDIS explode? As in, foreshadowing? As in give me a reason to watch, or care?

- What happened this season? What didn't happen this season? Did a giant Cyberman destroy Victorian London or was that erased?

It doesn't make sense. You can enjoy it, but you can't go on pretending it isn't seriously flawed.
