Contest: ENTER November Writing Contest

As much as I enjoy writing a story for the contest I always dread the chance that I might win and have to think of the next topic, which could be well received and have a flurry of entries or could kill the notion all over again!

I've been keeping a close eye on the voting and thought I'd better have an idea locked and loaded, just in case it happened. There have been a few ideas but I’ve decided to play it safe and keep it fairly open for prospective entrants.

Last month it was about ‘New Beginnings’, so this month I’ve decided to go with…

“One Last Mission” (because if he wants to go on one more mission, that's what we're going to do )

A word limit of 15,000 (there will be a little wiggle room though for anyone that goes over). You can use canon or original characters, from any universe/timeline, the focus is on them facing, in the midst of, or finishing up their last mission, whether as a crew before scattering to the winds on new postings, before retiring from active service and starting a new chapter in their lives, or from a more unexpected end, it's up to you.

The closing date for entries will be Sunday 10th December at 2100 hours (GMT), after which I’ll aim to get the polls open for voting ASAP. Though if you let me know that a story is incoming and you need a couple of hours to finish tidying it up then you’ll get your chance to be included.

So, from the description it kind of sounds as if the stories are supposed to be about a crew. Would a broader interpretation of the theme be within the rules (not a crew as such and a civilian setting)? It's okay if not. I thought I'd ask before I put any more thought into the inkling of an idea that I have.

I have a story plot set during the Dominion War, which is a period I know little about, in case someone would want to take the idea and run with it.

You can go as broad as you like with your ideas. So long as it's a person/ship/station/colony/gaseous alien entity/etc last time doing something then by all means submit away, don't want to stifle anyone's creativity.

Just wondering if anyone was inspired and currently working on a story (that could be posted in its entirety)?

I'm doing a @Dulak and working on one myself that I should get finished soon, though I won't be entering it into the vote seeing as how I don't want the responsibility of thinking up another topic!

I'm just wondering if I should extend this until the beginning of January?

If anyone has any ideas that they're working on and need a little more time, or might want a break from the family and lock themselves away at some point over the festive season to do some writing and enjoy a little peace.

In my case at least, yes. In addition to the normal Holiday chaos..other real life stuff, like computer dying, kitchen flooding, etc. have reared their ugly heads and severely diminished writing time.

Is anyone thinking of submitting a story? Can let this roll for another few weeks if someone is trying to hammer out an idea.

Or does someone have another idea for a contest theme?
