November Art Challenge - The Lensman

The Lensman

Commodore

Here's my entry for the month. Since most of the entries feature non-canon ships, and since there aren't really any ships outside of the classic Enterprise that I'm interested in owning as a model, I refined my UESPA Cruiser (featured on a couple of books in that series). I've been wanting to do an old style 70's box for some time, so this was as good a time as any. Lotta work went into this one, lotta details that are probably superfluous, but it was fun. Glad to be done with it finally.

Nice! Does that say "Andorian Battlecruiser" on the side of the box?

Thanks guys!

Nice! I really like the aging on the box, too :).

Thanks! It's probably not as subtle as I wanted it to be, but it gives the texture a little texture, if you know what I mean.

Plus I can't do slick and shiny as well as you and others. :techman:

It does. In my UESPA series, the Andorians currently occupy the place that the Klingons normally do. If I hadn't run out of time and steam, I probably would've created a new ship (I still might, just because now this is going to start bugging me....thanks dude!)

Instead I just re-created the Klingon ship. Laziness on my part really, plus it's familiar imagery from those old AMT kits.. Thankfully you can't see just how truly shitty my model of it is :guffaw:

I wanna' get a better look at the "Exploration Set" and your crewman fighting the "space hydra".

I'm guessing they may be images "just good enough" to be viewed at a distance, but I'm still curious.

Sincerely,

Bill

For fear of detracting Lensman's thread, sorry, nothing from me this time.

Sincerely,

Bill

Ask and you shall receive! You'll get a much better look at the Exploration Set in the next day or so. The ES was a little easier because they're 3D models and look pretty good close up. I'd like to refine and detail the ES a bit more, but not sure what my schedule will be like through the holidays, and I've got some other projects I want to work on. Right now I think of the current versions as the not quite accurately done model versions ala' the orginal ES.

You got it right on the Jose Tyler model kit though. It works good from a distance, but up close....well it's better than I could hope for without a really high res image to work from.

Here's your closer look at the Exploration Set, Redfern. I'd like to go back and detail them a bit more in the near future.
So think of this as a WIP

^ Those are cool. Add a little antennae nub to the communicator and UESPA fans can argue about the show predicted modern 2w radios.

I can definitely see that pistol as an intermediary between the Cage and series versions as well. :techman:

Nicely done.

I LOVE the tiny "reel to reel" data input/retrieval system to the field scanning/logging device!

Once you've finalized them, I'd love to obtain .OBJ format copies of those babies! What kind of reimbursement would you like?

Sincerely,

Bill
