November Art Challenge - B.J.'s entry

Hopefully I'll be able to finish this before the deadline, so I may as well put it out for comment.

This would be a Romulan take on the Constitution. Many people have thought that the original Bird of Prey took many cues from Federation designs, hinting at a bit of espionage. So I guess this is what would happen if the Romulans weren't so subtle with their copying.

Looks good. Can't wait to see more.

I am sure you know this, but thought I might add that the original idea (from which Stiles' reference to a spy derived) was that there was a spy within the Federation handing info over to the Romulans. Given that, it isn't a far jump to have the BoP resemble a Federation starship.

I don't know if that will influence your work, but thought I would throw it in for thought.

Well, here's my final image. This was a lot more work than I had planned on putting into it, but it works! :D

I like it, but is it just me or does the "nose" of the saucer seem to droop a little?

Maybe it's the way I shaded it gives that impression. But I can assure you the saucer edge is perfectly "flat". I had created a rough Sketchup model of the design to help with finding a good angle for the perspective, and I basically just drew over it.

Maybe droop was the wrong word. Perhaps this will better illustrate what I meant:

It just seems to my eye that the saucer doesn't line up with the rest of the ship and sort of points downwards.

I hope i didn't overstep by posting this but I just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Look at the red schematic in the lower right. The saucer tapers toward the back, just like the original Bird of Prey. Those lines won't be pointing in the same direction.

Ah yes, I hadn't noticed that! Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer. I really do like the design!

My favorite part is how the saucer has a 'beak' that can be seen from the side, really lending to the whole bird motif.
