Novel? (spoilers)

I preordered the novel from Amazon UK, but yet they haven't been able to deliver it on time due to the fact that it sold out. This is quite annoying, really, as I was hoping to see if they included any of the deleted stuff from the film in the book.

So has anyone here managed to get a hold of the novel, and if so, is there any major extra scenes that weren't included in the film or just a few more lines here and there?

I haven't gotten mine yet, but I beleave whats in the book, is what was in the original script. Don't forget the book is normally written before the movie is finished.

I didn't want to leave this to Amazon delivery, so I called up our Barnes & Noble, and they had the books ready to go in the stock room.

However, the clerk said their records flagged a "hard street date" of May 12 (Tuesday) for sales.

So, she reserved a copy for me, and I'm going to pick it up on Tuesday. I hope they didn't screw up.

This novel seemed to actually not be released early like the other Trek novels have been recently. The clerk at my local Borders said that they did get it in (they had stopped ordering Trek novels) but were told they had to wait until Tuesday to put it out.

I started reading it yesterday. So far I'm not that impressed. I seem to remember that the novelizations of TMP and TWOK back in the day elaborated a lot more about background stuff and character motivations. So far (up until the Kobayashi Maru) the novelization didn't add much. Robau has the wrong first name, as it was different in an early script I suppose, but that's a minor nitpick.

Spock's birth scene is back in. There's a scene with young Kirk and his brother before Jim steals the car. Can't say much more yet.

That's what happened to me at my bn. I even whined and showed them my movie ticket stub to prove that I had already seen the movie, but they still said "no."

I DID get the soundtrack while I was there though, and almost have it committed to aural memory.

Me, too. I had it on a loop on my iPod last night. I really wanted that book;but the soundtrack is a big help. I am going to appreciate the music a lot more when I go back again this week.

It be my first since Eugenics Wars 3.

Glad to know I didn't scare you away from the books for good! :)

No, no, it wasn't your fault. I enjoyed them thoroughly enough.

I was a member of a fansite very hostile to non-canon adventures. They slapped the taste for such things out of my mouth for a while. Real life needed me to devote more of my time to it also.

Now the kids are almost grown and Trek is new again so I am ready to rediscover an old friend: Star Trek novels. I'll be looking for an adventure by you in the Nuverse. :bolian:

I've read somewhere that the novel only has about 200 pages. Now, even saying the font would be set in a very small corps and the novel's dimensions would be bigger, that's still a hell of a thin little booklet in my eyes. So I don't think I'll get it.

Just goes to show how little story there is here.

In the novel, yes. In the movie? No.

It wouldn't be the first novel that didn't flesh out any motivations, thoughts or other stuff that isn't easy translatable to the screen.

My hubby tried to get the novel for me on Friday at Chapters - since I looked it up and it said they had 20 copies in stock, but they refused to sell it to him citing the release date was Tuesday. I went in on Saturday to kill some time before the movie and they had a whole Trek display but no novel there. I turned around and there were 3 copies sideways on the shelf, so I picked it up. I half expected them to refuse to sell it to me when I got to the cashier.

I've only just started it, but there is a nice bit about Spock's birth thus far. I'm hoping to finish it up by tomorrow.

As an aside, it's criminal that it costs as much as it does. Totally insane. But that, the soundtrack, going to see it and the DVD is all the movie merchandise they'll likely get from me. Probably. ;)
