Notable characters who never got a full name (in canon, at least).

Does Female Changeling count as a full name (given name: Female, surname: Changeling)?

Q. No name at all. Just named after his people.

This is actually addressed on screen during the opening arc of the sixth season. Odo mentions that he doesn't know the Female Changeling's name, to which she replies, "What use would I have for a name?"

Which makes you wonder what she signed on the treaty ending the war in WYLB.

Lt. Leslie never got a full name.
But he got several last names.

Most of his names can be used as first names, Ryan, Connor, even Leslie. In fact, I think some novels do name him Ryan Leslie.

FORBIDDEN PLANET, surely a strong influence on STAR TREK, used a lot of naval titles, such as "bosun" (boatswain). The captain referred to him by title throughout the movie, and only once by given name. ("Thank you, Steve" when he brought out the tractor.)

If only the writers had given him a surname, like Higgs...

To take the opposite approach, my username may be the only Romulan to have two names as opposed to just one.

Guinan never got a whole name either. I had always assumed her kind to have only one name, but that got junked once Tolian Soran & Martus Mazur showed up

There's always been unofficial names. According to DC's Who's Who, Kyle's first name is Thomas and Leslie's is Frank.

There's the possibility that it's an alias too, since Q had known her by a different name. Presumably she used a first name while living on 19th Century Earth.

You'd think that Vulcans would logically use more than one name since a language can only have so many syllables. That's my assessment, anyway.

Well, Spock was sometimes referred to as 'Spock, son of Sarek' in a formal manner. Although rarely shown, maybe that's how Vulcan names were meant to work like arabic style patronymics (Name, son of [father] [clan name]), however in informal settings, the full name is abbreviated.

I get the feeling that both Romulns and Cardassians, being rather formal in their demeanour use the family name in all circumstances except very informal moments with their closest friends and family
It even took Garak several years to tell Julian that his first name was Elim.
Enabran Tain however appears to be the exception, in that he was happy to use his full name.

There are of course the Ferengi who seem to use only single names, whick must be given names not family names. Maybe in Ferengi society, any second names, family names etc are reserved entirely for business use and considered inpolite for use in casual conversation.

The modern novels go with "John Kyle". And "Winston Kyle" for his mirror counterpart.
I read in one of the Best of Trek books that Kyle's first name is Winston (named after the actor who played him, John Winston).

Of course he has more than one name. Both Amanda and Spock refused to say it, though; it took Amanda many years of practice and she still wasn't perfect at it, and Spock flat-out told Leila she wouldn't be able to pronounce it.

The fanfic series in my sig uses one of the popular fan versions that's been around for at least 30 years, though. ;) (the pattern is "individual's name, son/daughter of (father's name), of the clan _____")

Just for fun, from the old Officer’s Manual:

JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK

XTMPRSZNTWLFD SPOCK

LEONARD HORATIO MCCOY

MONTGOMERY EDWARD SCOTT

HIKARU ITAKA SULU

UPENDA NYOTA UHURA

PAVEL ANDREIEVICH CHEKOV

and
CHRISTOPHER ROBIN PIKE

(First, again, I know many of them got names in books).

I'd say two of the big ones were Dukat and Damar. I think in some cases, they couldn't decide if some races had one name (i.e. Klingons) or more than one. It almost seems like they started to think that GUL was Dukat's first name. As his right-hand man turned revolutionary leader grew in importance Damar never got a given name either.

Leeta seems to be the one recurring Bajoran character who never got a full name either. I assume "Leeta" was her given name.

It would be years after their introduction that both Winn and Bariel would get given names. In fact, the one good thing about the episode "Resurrection" was learning it and having Kira actually refer to him by it, which makes much more sense. I admit they did come up with a clever way of establishing Winn's given name, having "Anjohl Tennan" call him that, cementing their relationship (even though she never called him by HIS given name, as I recall).

Guinan was the only one of three el-Aurian characters of note to never get a full name.

Mr. Kyle, the erstwhile original transporter chief never got a first name either.

Then, of course, there was Sulu, who didn't get one until ST6 and Uhura, who had to wait until Abrams took over, for Pete's sake!

Dukat's initials were given in one of the episodes where he records a log as S.G.
