Not really Sure

Capt. Kamehasu

Cadet
Newbie
Hello.

I am not really sure if i should be here. I don't really know where to go so i am going to post in here. I apologize in advance.
I am basically looking to talk with other people interested in star trek science. I am interested in chatting online or privately. I can't seem find anything on the web. The web led me here. I love star trek science. I want to talk to people who do too or who are serious about it and want to chat for awhile. Anyways thank you. Again I apologize for being in the wrong room or site.

Wellll because those won't really be what i am wanting. Actually i am looking for people to talk with that actually want to make real shuttle crafts and such. I know i know its crazy but Like i said i am really only interested in chatting with folks that would jump at a chance to make something real. I just heard about the new planet 581g or as i call it Elise. Its just 20 light years from here and 20% bigger. I think there is a real chance here and i have pretty good ideas. I know i am probably bonkers here but thats why i am here i guess i am searching for others who would want to take it serious and do something for it. Anyways. Thanks

hey i'm kinda down for that. I have no experience in physics or anything as such, just a smart on my own kinda guy with a general understanding of things.

But if you want a discussion on building a hypothetical starship or shuttle with today's understanding of how it works, sprinkled with a little imaginative thinking, then i'm down.

At this point, a 20 LY journey would in real life be daunting at best. so conjecture, theory, and possibilities are what we'd be using.

But if you're interested, facebook me:aw51183@yahoo.com

you can search for me using that address.

Next, seek professional attention, because in all probability you are, as you noted, completely bonkers.

Well hello, and thank you i would really appreciate talking to someone. I am very very creative and believe that it can be done. After all i am an American. So it is in our history to be creative and most of all a belief that the world isn't flat.

To make a minor correction, though what i will be using is creative thinking i will also not throw out theoretical science and true blood science. Science like the future is always changing. For instance of what i mean take dr.michio kaku from science fame and theoretical sciences and the TV show scifi science. He has already come up with FAL [Fast as light-well almost] speeds. So no i don't think 20ly will be too far or too far fetched.

I also don't think its far fetched to think that good theory and good sound creative thinking along with critical thinking and even better in a team would be terrible. I know that if i had the right people. People open to a better and greater mind and a very extensive opportunity will take the chance.

Again thank you very much for chatting. I don't do facebook things because I am really interested in live chat and i think its quicker to chat here vs there anyways. Thank you.

Okay, I think that you would be reasonable to an extent. I appreciate your point of view. It was honest and though sarcastic a little. I still appreciate it.

I do disagree with your opinion. Man can do whatever we set our minds and hearts to do. What we have done so far is a drop in the bucket and if we work towards a new future then all is possible. So thank you for your opinion and I just want you to know that i didn't just ignore it.

Dr. Kaku's show is poorly informed on it's science. I would take most things there with a grain of salt.

If you do want to talk about real science though, you should move to the Science and Technology forum. This forum is for fictional Star trek tech.

If you're interested more some of the real world stuff, as opposed to some of the hypothetical Trek/sci fi stuff that comes up in here, this thread might be better suited to the Science & Tech forum. I can move it there if you'd prefer. :) I apologize for the delay in commenting, as I just got back from out of town.

Don't be rude to the man. Come on!

Don't be rude to the man. Come on!

1. There is a chance that this man is having you on.

2. If he isn't, it would be more disrespectful to suggest that this person is likely build a working spaceship in his basement or backyard.

3. The link I posted, I think, would be a good source of inspiration for this sort of thing...

Let's not deviate too far from the actual topic and into personal stuff. I prefer that posters not get personal. ;)

Have you always been such a cynic?

I fail to see how my remarks are cynical.

What we have learned from physics indicates that there is no cheap and easy way to travel 20 light years. So far, we've traveled the 1.3 light second distance from the Earth to the Moon - our most astounding feat of manned exploration yet performed. And yet this guy is talking about building his own warp-shuttle(!). And he is asking for help from fans of a science fiction franchise(?).

If I wandered into a Twilight forum and started banging on about how "I was probably bonkers" but was interested in becoming a real sparkle-vampire, what should they tell me?

Frankly, I think it is disingenuous, misleading, and even cruel to encourage people to entertain delusions. At precisely the point that the serious physics conversation were to begin (and he avows that he quite serious about this business), his hopes would have to be dashed anyhow. So far, I am the only one who has respected him enough as an interlocutor to give a straight answer to his query.

No, I am not going to encourage him to waste time, effort, and money (or possibly even his safety) on the pipe-dream of building a spaceship in your own backyard.

I am all for fun theoretical discussions, but no, I am not going to pretend that it makes sense to serious propose what he is proposing.

Don't mistake honesty for cynicism. And don't conflate enabling with healthy encouragement.

What's wrong with Dr. Kaku? He's a theoretical physicist. As for the poster he wasn't looking for help he was looking for like minded people to discuss such a feat and who the fuck cares if he thinks he can or not, and I dare say that if you wondered into a "Twilight" forum claiming that you'd either get a slew of unsolicited emails from other like minded people. Just because someone thinks or wants to build a real life shuttlecraft doesn't mean they're deluded or insane, you maybe honest with your opinion but you are also being cynical by expressing this opinion and that cynicism doesn't accomplish anything.
