In the novels,
Drex matures somewhat during the attempted coup against Martok in the aftermath of the Dominion War. He is then assigned as First Officer on the I.K.S Gorkon, until Captain Klag grows too irritated and he ends up reassigned to a planet. By 2381, he commands his own ship, and dies in battle against the Kinshaya at Krios.
