Spoilers Noonian Soong is still alive and we have seen him in Season 1

Of course it’s Lore. Soong’s biological son popping out of nowhere? Android-generating process supposedly co-invented by… Bruce Maddox? It’s clearly Borg technology Lore appropriated in 2369, before using it to copy himself as “Altan”. The Collective naturally has no use for human drones without prosthetics, but their controlled development provides a great basis for enhancements. And now Picard is one of them and how does he feel about it?

Is it possible there was something else behind the rebellion on Mars? Attributing the whole thing to a secret Romulan plot never made sense to me.

Soong's, wife, Lore and B4 all popped out of nowhere. "Nowhere" is filled with relatives of Trek characters we haven't met yet

Yes, but see, the point of this particular thread is to introduce the time-honored writing device where someone is  someone else, instead of perhaps suggesting that Season 2 could move on to another story entirely as I’d prefer. So, fine, having Altan be :wtf: Noonien is one possibility, but what if he’s  Lore? For all we know it was Lore who created B-4 as a failed “Backup 4”, before running into advanced Borg technology. Wouldn’t that be a worthy followup to the Season 1 conspiracy, assuming we can’t have a season where Picard gets bogged down in minutiae of peace negotiations somewhere, but also happens to meet interesting characters along the way?

It doesn't require follow up. Lore was dismantled and that's the end.

And, bringing Lore back basically means sidelining "interesting characters" again with another journey back to the past.

Exactly. PIC is about Picard so that’s a constant, but everything else is quite malleable and open to departures from TNG, especially with Season 1 wound down to an epilogue.

When random posters here and on reddit join the PIC writing staff then they can introduce "time-honored writing devices". Until then it's just idle speculation .

No, it would not be a worthy follow up.

How is Altan so proficient at cybernetics? Noonian did not seem like the type to share those skills, especially if he was a product of a sole sexual encounter.

Does no one else wonder about why there is a cat named Spot on Coppelius? Especially if one considers that no one else of the people affiliated with the planet but Maddox, most likely Noonian and maybe Lore knew about Data's cat...

I figured if they have sim Data in that...simulation, they probably interacted with him and got to know him petty well and built Spot after getting bored with the butterfly and space death flower projects.

I think you answered your own question.
