Sexy Human

Lieutenant
Really? Ok so he saved Earth, but is that enough to just skip, ensign, liuetenant, commander, everything? Wow

Surprised noone ever mentions this or how unrealistic it is.

He was a CADET. And he got promoted to Captain.

According to an onscreen bio, he was already a lieutenant whilst at the Academy, like Saavik (ST II).

And Pike introduces him as his "relief", which I took to mean that Kirk is - possibly - at that point, more like an acting captain, still under scrutiny by the incapacitated Pike. Is there not also a massive shortage of experienced captains after Nero devastated the fleet?

It's also possible that that scene takes place months after the main action although, the way it was shot, all the cadets are in exactly the same places they were previously.

Not sure why people are claiming he was a luietenant at the beginning of the movie when him and bones and all of em were clearly cadets

Probably because of an on screen graphic gave his rank as Lieutenant. As mentioned, Saavik was a cadet with rank of Lieutenant as well. Kirk in the original timeline might have held the rank of Lieutenant while at the academy as well. McCoy leaves the academy with the rank of Lt Commander. ( most professionals are give ranks of O-3 or higher)

A Cadet "with the rank of luietenant"

what the devil are u people talking about

what onscreen graphic?

And why all these excuses? Cmon guys, take your blinders off

What blinders would those be? No one is saying its a good idea, just that in Star Trek is has precedence.
