Nominate your choice(s) for Doctor #12

My nomination for #12:

Chiwetel Ejiofor.

I do think they should have a ginger Doctor eventually...but save that for the "last" regeneration. "Finally, I'm a ginger!"

Lol.

(I assume their will figure out a way to extend the Doctor's life past the 13 regen limit - but I'm assuming - for Drama's sake - #13 will probably spend his like *thinking* he's the last version of the Doctor...which I wonder, if that will make him be less reckless and more cautious?)

Since before Christopher Eccleston's casting, I've wanted Eddie Izzard or Bill Nighy playing The Doctor. I would also love to see Alexander Siddig or Jack Davenport in the role.

At the rate were going with The Doctor's shrinking age, the next Doctor will no doubt be something along the line of...

It'll no doubt make the Rose/Doctor lovestory a little "different". :wtf:

I don't know why everyone wants Paterson Joseph to be the Doctor. He was OK in Parting of the Ways but I don't see anything remotely "Doctorish" about the guy.

If they're going to insist on having a black Doctor, Adrian Lester from Hustle is far and away the superior choice.

Others on my "would love to see as the Doctor" list:

Bill Nighy
Jonathan Pryce
Tom Felton from Harry Potter (that's an oddball choice, I know, but I think he has potential)
Marc Warren
Hugh Laurie
Alexander Siddig (saw him on Merlin recently and he was great, and it would be a cool uniting of Trek and Who fandoms if he was cast)
With Ben Browder as an "out of left field" choice if the BBC decides to break with tradition and cast a non-Brit in the role.

I'm not in favor of changing the Doctor's color "just because" or out of some politically correct rationale, but Adrian Lester would be my first choice if they did so. And he's already in the BBC family. Failing that, I liked Gary Beadle when he appeared on The Sarah Jane Adventures as Clyde's father, and I think he'd do a good job.

And since the question of "can the Doctor change sex" just won't go away, my 2 cents on that issue is that if they go that route, they have two choices:

Sophia Myles (if Romana could take on the appearance of Princess Astra, then the Doctor could take on the appearance of Madame de Pompadour)
Katie McGrath from Merlin

Alex

As long as they can act, does it actually matter what colour they are? Surely by now, casting a roll shouldn't be reliant on the colour of a persons skin.

Oh and that chap from Serenity is a good choice.

I don't have a choice.

I would never have thought of Christopher Eccleston in a million years as the Doctor and I thought he was a brilliant Doctor. I had no idea who David Tennant was when he was announced as Chris' replacement and I thought he was even better. I had see Matt Smith in those Philip Pullman adaptations but he never really registered and, again, I would never have thought of him in a million years. But from the end of TEOT, he seemed to be a very promising Doctor.

So I'm quite happy for the producers to surprise me, rather than imagining Well Known Actor X bringing his own personal but familiar qualities to the role, which is what the Rickmans, Izzards or Nighys (talented as they are) of this world would do.

Isn't it a wee bit early to be thinking of the 12th Doctor already? Somebody counting on a short run for 11? :D

That said, I still think David Thewlis would be a good Doctor.

plus his survivors character make me think he'd do very well in the role.

see, that's precisely why i don't think he should play the Doctor. Too similar to de Carabas. Plus which, who's to say his Doctor would be anything like that without Gaiman's writing.

Even though he has already appeared as Dr. Moon in the show I think Colin Salmon would make a terrific Doctor.

right on 23skidoo. I've been saying Bill Nighy for years. It'll never happen, since the PTB seem to want to keep The Doctor in the 20-40 range and last time I checked Bill was in his fifties. But we can dream.

Well sure he'd need the writting but any doctor needs good writting (will not go into a tennant rant). All I know is judging from that and his intro especially on survivors I think he would make a good older kinnda weary doctor or at least could play one.

He was also a lot of fun as the OTT villain in Moffat's Jekyll. The fan interest in having him play the Doctor probably started there, and increased when it became known that he had read for the role of the Doctor and was a contender.

Yeah I've been a huge Patterson fan since Neverwhere, and in fact have wanted him to be the Doctor since Neverwhere, but he wasn't very good in Jekyll...this was mainly down to the silly accent more than anything. He's been good in Survivors so far.

Since I can't have him as the Doctor I'm now wondering what he'd be like as the Master

I'd pick Colin Salmon over Lester. Though I concede that Lester would be awesome. :)

Alexander Siddig (saw him on Merlin recently and he was great, and it would be a cool uniting of Trek and Who fandoms if he was cast)
He's been on my list for about five years now.

Daniel Davis or David Hyde Pierce.

Long shot, and this would only work for a movie, Kevin Kline.

Sophia Myles (if Romana could take on the appearance of Princess Astra, then the Doctor could take on the appearance of Madame de Pompadour)
Okay, that would be interesting. And I could see her taking the role, just to annoy David Tennant. :)

Katie McGrath from Merlin
As much as I love Kate McGrath on Merlin, her acting is pretty variable. Emilia Fox might be a better choice.

I'd also consider Michelle Ryan.

And if you wanted to really break tradition -- female and American -- Anne Dudek from House a few years back.
