Nolan 'verse Batman baddies we'll never see.

I disagree, the Nolan films are firmly grounded in "a" reality. A slightly stretched one, sure, but so far it's been a series of films without much in the way of fantastical elements beyond what you'd have to accept as simply part of the character. That Bruce Wayne is so easily able to pull of dual identities, embezzle and do the damage he does without getting caught is a bit unrealistic but still not as fantastical as some elements of the BMU. It's a reality grounded in a benign universe without much in the way of magic or super natural.

If Ra's does end up being immortal the Lazarus pit can fit in nicely as being a supernatural element of a forgotten race/religion. It's just q question of how far you can stretch the disbelief of the Nolan-U.

What is with the obsession with turning the Riddler into a serial killer? Doing that would be akin to what Burton did with the Penguin. True, Riddler is known for his Silver Age "death traps" he put Batman and Robin in, but the character generally abhors violence and laments that other villains resort to killing.

At least Carrey's portrayal was true to Riddler's earlier years.

Actually, I would think there's a risk it would be too similar to Ledger's joker. I think the reason is there would need to be some kind of urgency to the character. And it would evoke images of someone like the Zodiac Killer. Basically, Batman needs to solve the clues he's sending to catch him.

Well, there's nothing realistic, naturalistic or grounded about Nolan's Batman movies, not in any reasonable interpretation of the words.

I don't agree with your underlying premise. Nolan's stated point from the beginning was to be as grounded and realistic as possible. Nolan's Batman films obviously aren't completely Realistic/Naturalistic -- but they are mostly so. His films are "Realistic if you squint;" they have certain key departures from Realism/Naturalism, but those departures don't go too far, and he works hard to make sure that those departures don't set the overall tone of the narrative. It's not completely Realistic/Naturalistic, but it's not overtly fantastical, either.

The Riddler would work well as a serial criminal of some sort but I don't think a serial killer would completely fit the character. A serial terrorist of some sort I could see, ending in maybe a single mass-killing. But serial killer? Nah.

Buddy and I were just talking about this topic and both him and I have our reservations on Anne Hathaway's Catwoman, then he mentioned Olivia Wilde being Catwoman and that instantly clicked in my mind as being almost too perfect.

Ohhh what may never be.

:(

That's the problem with many of Batman's villains. They can be fantastic characters, but they don't lend themselves very well to feature film portrayals. They goes double in regards to Nolan's take on Batman.

As much as I like Olivia Wilde I don't think she is right for Catwoman. They got it right with Anne Hathaway. Olivia however would make a wonderful love interest type character. Perhaps akin to Silver St. Cloud or someone else like that.

I saw a pic of Anne in the costume recently. Poor girl looked bored.

Michelle Pfeiffer will always be my favorite Catwoman.

^ How did she look bored? That's the trouble with out of context set pics every fan thinks they know what the actor or actress is thinking in the role and makes a judgement lol. I only say this because I've seen pics of Anne on set where she's laughing and seemingly having a good time on set.

and no doubt given the process of film making there are times when no matter how much the actor enjoys the role they will find things tedious whether it's multiple takes or waiting for things to be setup so they can do their next scene.

"But we already did it. It took seven hours, but we did it. It’s done."

Gotta go with Julie Newmar myself . . .

Seconded.

Like much, but not a lot, of the stuff Burton did with Batman I wasn't much impressed with his take on Catwoman -again mostly him changing her origin story/nature of her character- but Pfeiffer did look good in her S&M outf..., er, Catwoman outfit.

Random thought: I always wondered why we never saw Harvey Bullock in The Dark Knight. Keith Szarabajka's Detective Gerard Stephens (the one the Joker tricks into beating him and then takes hostage to get out of lockup) certainly plays on some of the same visual archetypes that Bullock plays into. But I digress.

Probably the one-Harvey limit. That doesn't explain why the cop with the sick mother wasn't Renee Montoya, though.

Well, presumably she became Ramirez rather than Montoya because she was a dirty cop.
