Ha, Mad Men can't lose Best Drama even when it doesn't win anything else!

Yay for all the Downton upsets. See, HBO, you can in fact lose that category!

And Modern Family won everything it was nominated for. That's ok. I still think Parks and Recreation was the best comedy last year, and I'm looking forward to That show on Thursday Night.

Oh, and I will be running and keeping a thread about Parks and Recreation this year so I encourage people to watch and spread the word. You can skip the first season if you like, but I love it so I wouldn't recommend it. Just marvel in the love that is Nick Offerman and Aziz Anzari, who both should have been nominated in the Modern Family Awards tonight.

and no I haven't seen Modern Family.

Do so, it's the funniest show I've watched since Arrested Development, so I didn't have a problem with it winning all it did. Only seen the first season so far, but I'm eagerly awaiting season 2 from Netflix this week and will be recording the season 3 episodes in the meantime. And I do plan on starting Community in the near future. I watched the first two episodes when they originally aired and they didn't really didn't do anything for me, but I'm willing to give the show a second chance after all the good stuff I've heard about it.

I enjoyed Jane's Opening number (The Mad Men section cracked me up.), but I think the one from last year was better overall.

Mostly, I'm just glad that Margo Martindale and Peter Dinklage won.

Never did get into FNL, but it's been on my list for a while now.

I couldn't care about the Emmy's this year. Very few things I care about were nominated. The total exclusion of Community completely killed any interest in watching such a travesty.

White Collar, Burn Notice and Leverage also should have gotten some nods.

If the teams in the Superbowl aren't ones that should be there, don't watch.

Community being snubbed yet again, only illustrates more and more how gamed the Award Show system is.

Once you bring Cable series into the mix, one begins to realize they've been severely undervalued to the Emmy's own detriment.

Alas, since the networks tend to pay the bills, it would look bad if they didn't always have something in contention now wouldn't it.

Realistically, The Emmy Awards are a product of another time that predates cable to the point where it's never really been resolved how to incorporate cable series into their awards format.

AMC somehow managed to break into the HBO/Showtime areas of influence and has been able to dominate for the past several years, but if we're being honest, USA & TNT have each produced series of equal or greater merit for awards contention.

Of course, that's all only true if we still believe the awards are given on merit only (of which they haven't been in years if not decades).

I've really enjoyed The Closer, Leverage, & Falling Skies

Plus I tended to enjoy both Memphis Beat and Franklin & Bash this season even though I'll admit the weren't breaking any particular molds.

Also, Men Of A Certain Age garnered quite a bit of critical buzz despite it's cancellation.

There is nothing on USA or TNT that comes close to Mad Men or Breaking Bad. The former specializes almost entirely in procedural shows (good ones, for what they're worth, but that's not normally an Emmy thing).

Plenty of non-primetime shows win Emmys these days, particularly in the drama and miniseries categories (the latter being almost solely the preserve of HBO and PBS).

Well I'll be the odd one out here and say that last night's Emmy's was actually the first one I've enjoyed in a long time! The second half was boring as usual, but the first half of the show was really funny. I was happy with almost all of the wins and thought that Jane Lynch did an awesome job as host! She was very natural at it, it didn't feel uncomfortable and scripted like hosts can sometimes seem.

I thought the moment when all the best actress in a comedy nominees went on stage was really hilarious and cute! And then the tiara and roses was just icing on the cake, I was laughing out loud for sure.

I was so happy for all of the Modern Family wins, I feel like that show really deserves it. And a Big Bang Theory win in there as well, awesome! Those, in my opinion, are the two best comedies on TV.

Watching the awards for drama, I realized how few dramas I've been watching lately. Just a few years ago there were some great dramas on TV but hardly any watchable comedies. That seems to have completely flipped, and now I think there are some fantastic comedies but hardly any dramas that I can get into at all.

The one really odd moment of the night was that musical number that included Michael Bolton as Jack Sparrow and Akon, with blue Avatar creatures dancing around them. The lyrics were funny, but the visuals were just plain strange!

Those songs were all performed by the Lonely Island comedy group and special guests on Saturday Night Live: I Just Had Sex (with Akon), Jack Sparrow (with Bolton), etc. Their most famous work is the trilogy of songs they've done with guest Justin Timberlake over the years (Dick in a Box, Motherlover, and 3-Way (The Golden Rule)).
