No Real News = Funny, Sarcastic Posts

TO ALL: The threads we are closing are largely the ones with little to no actual thought and/or content. We want to allow you guys to have your fun...but you MUST keep in mind that joke threads will be held to the same standard as any other post. A joke thread is not necessarily a spam thread...but alot of the ones being posted the last couple of days ARE spam threads. And a couple have been flat-out juvenile silliness that anyone who is old enough to have learned how to type should have outgrown years ago.

To spell it out: One or two liner non-substance posts, 'Ha! Made you look!' posts with no content, posts related to bodily functions (poop, farts or any other bodily function), and attempts at being disguising or gross are NOT gonna fly.

I think this is the right answer.

I was a huge supporter of parody/silly threads, but then all hell broke loose until I somewhat regretted my earlier stance.

Senses of humor will vary, but some of that stuff was just ridiculous.

I'm glad to see that the Mods are not going to overreact and do a 180, closing all threads that are not deadly serious. That's not the right answer either.

A little quality control is the key. And I think we can trust the Mods to have a reasonable quality control filter.

Until they close one of my threads, that is!

I don't mind a goofy post, I just like to know what it is before I click it. Make it nice and plain for me. There's nothing like clicking on a thread thinking it's one thing and it's something else.

Yeah, we're trying to find that right balance. Tricky business.

I'm sure you're kidding, but in truth, many are offended if their threads are closed. It's truly not personal, but an attempt to walk that fine line between enough and too much or funny and not funny or even content and lack of content.

It's really gotten out of hand. How many serious posts are there now? It seems as if everyone feels they now have permission to exercise their "creativity."

Mods, please crack down, or else please start moving threads into the Fan Fiction forum.

Since the Mods have clearly stated their policy in this matter, it follows logically that they are already implementing it in the way they think appropriate.

The number of serious posts and threads won't be effected by the parody threads; that's entirely dependant on what JJ lets out and ideas people think are note worthy.

jayrath, we have closed several of the more spammy threads over the past couple of days, leaving open the ones in here which have more substance (and in many cases, an underlying message of some kind about the state of Trek fandom or some other issue) - in other words, the true parody threads, as opposed to the cheap laugh posts that really belonged in the lounge, if anywhere.

No new joke threads have been started today, since I posted my last post in this thread (posted last night), which FULLY explained the rationale we are trying to use here to keep the place in balance.

Understand that we are NOT going to make all the joke threads go away - we are not interested in sucking the joy out of life for those who enjoy the joke threads (myself being one of them, quite frankly). But we DO plan to view the joke threads as we would any other post, and judge them on that basis. If it has some substance & content and is something that was clearly well-thought out (as opposed to a one-liner going for the cheap laugh), then you can expect it to remain open.

As I said earlier - not all joke threads are spam. And not all 'serious' threads are NOT spam.

If it's pure spam, we will close it - joke thread or no joke thread. But we are not gonna suck the joy out of posting in here by becoming hard-asses who frown on anything that might possibly smell of 'fun'. I can tell you right now - while I can't speak for the other mods, that's not in my nature. I LIKE to laugh and have a good time. I like reading some serious topics too...but it never hurt anyone to have a good laugh, is my philosophy (in case that isn't abundantly obvious by now :p ).

If you would like to see more serious threads posted in the forum, why not post some of your own? All are welcome to post, of course, and if you have a more serious topic you would like to see discussed, by all means throw it out there and let's discuss it! :)
