No Real News = Funny, Sarcastic Posts

I get a kick out of them.

Others seem not to.

At least it seems people are starting to figure out that they aren't real. I was getting annoyed by people responding with "This is a joke, right?"

So let's find out people's general opinion about these satirical posts

I love 'em. I understand why some folks are getting annoyed, but what else are we going to do with what could be months until we get some real news? Have fun!

Not only that, but there's never really been a time quite like this in Trek history, with the possible exception of the release of TMP. But even then, that was a return by most of the creative team from the TV show, and all of the actors. This is the first time we've had recasts of major, iconic characters, and a total housecleaning on the creative side. Is it any wonder the fanbase stressed? It's like we're hanging over a precipice, unsure whether we're going to fall. The outflow of parody posts and satirical content is a reflection of the uncertain sentiment running through the community. It's an attempt--and a necessary one, IMO--to give voice our mixed feelings and bleed off some of the tension many of us are feeling. And even if you're not concerned about a new take on Trek, you have to live around those who are, and find some way to deal with it.

An exciting time to be on the board. :D

Wait...so you're saying...some of the rumors posted here are not true?! wtfomg?!

In order to restore order, I suggest we put an end to all the meaningless parody threads and wild unfounded rumors. As such, I suggest we handle the situation in the same manner as our beloved government.

First, we need to put out a contract to the lowest bidder, who will conduct scientific research for the next 5 months. Then we will take their advice on a system of new rules if their findings are not in conflict with the plan we were going to implement all along. Which are:

-Firstly, anyone wishing to start a parody thread must get approval by 2/3 of the mods, in a voting process taking no longer than 190 days, not counting holidays and weekends. If it passes their approval, it will then be voted upon by board members, requiring at least 51% majority, in a voting session no longer than 14 days.

-Secondly, Any new rumors must be labeled as such, ie, "rumor" ie "possible spoiler". Any new rumor must pass a vote of confidence with a 51% majority of posters feeling "confident" in the rumor.

-Thirdly, anyone claiming to have inside knowledge must prove it by posting an image of themselves talking to Abrams. Obvious photoshops will be suspect. But No scientific evidence against them currently exists, so photoshopped pics are acceptable.

-Fourthly, Anyone not following the rules will set a bad example. Please don't.

Once these are approved and put into action, which will take about 3 years, we will finally be prepared to deal with any Trek XI rumors.

^We'll have to get the movie classified "Top Secret" and placed in a vault. Then we can rumor about it for decades.

I never personally cared about silly/stupid threads. I'd only ever give a moment's thought about it "professionally" if it appeared contentless to the point of complete spam. That's part of the reason I once opened a dialogue concerning the issue instead of taking swift, decisive action when I saw they were in abundance.

They were cute at first, but now it is just getting obnoxious. It seems like a day can't go by w/o another silly post starting.

Then again, I realize there isn't much to talk about at the moment. Perhaps this forum was made to early? Probably not. Eh...oh well.

I find them irritating. I know I'm in the minority, but you asked. There are too many of them and they often have misleading subject lines that make them sound like real news. How funny is the same joke told over and over again?

I like them. I feel if they are done right and if they get the right sort of participation, they can be real enjoyable.

For those who hate them, look at it this way: there may be new ones popping up all the time, but you only have to look at it once. Go through the original post, and if it looks suspect, just don't look back. Problem solved!

I think they're a pain in the ass and I love it. The more I see these stupid posts the more in need of them I become. It's addicting. Besides, can't be serious all the time, if I wanted that I'd stay at work more.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I quite like them, in that they occasionally produce a gem. Cogleys work springs to mind, as does STARTREK11's. If this forum is restricted solely to real news, we're gonna have very little to talk about for the next 13 months. So I don't object to a little satire done well.
The problem is, given that debate on the film itself has become stagnated on the same 4/5 points of late, (hence why it was funny in the first place) the parody threads will quickly run out of new stuff to make fun of, unless we get some more news purporting to be real pretty soon.

I like them only when they're funny, which too few are. However, the few that have been ligitimately hilarious justify the several duds that were posted between them. Can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs.

Unfunny, unfunny eggs ;)

dammit sam put christmas back were you found it.. :scream:

anyway..
i think the problem will be self correcting as soon as more real news starts to come out.

though it might help if for one people read througn all of the opening post/
some people took one thread seriously because obviously they stopped reading before they got to certain key paragraphs .
or if they read them they know /remember very little of star trek to start with.

still it might help if the origanal poster a couple of posts in comes back and makes it clear if it is fake or not.

i only think the parody threads become a problem if they drown out threads about real news ect.

Yep. You'll notice that there was a minimum of fucking around a few weeks ago when there was actual news regarding casting.

I mostly think they're funny and I get a good laugh. but I am beginning to think enough is enough. give it a rest, guys, take a break for a while. some of this stuff is getting out of hand -- like that stupid aspect ratio thread.

however, the Enterprise car thread was hilarious

They're mostly funny and all of them are harmless. Only thing that's annoying is people getting angry over them... otherwise, what the heck. I'll keep on reading them.
