no re-release for The Dark Knight

As a great a movie at it was, a re-release this month would be pretty bizarre anyway. It wasn't THAT long ago that it came out and it's out on DVD soon anyway.

It was an idea floated to remind Oscar voters about the film - but I don't think the Oscar voters need to be reminded about it. It's a stunning film, highly likely to at least get nominated for best picture, and Ledger is a virtual lock for best actor.

You are a funny man.

I think that Ledger may get nominated for Best Supporting, but I don't think he's going to win or get a Best Actor nom.

LOTR was much more Oscar material. TDK might get a nomination in the same vein as Star Wars or Field of Dreams but it won't actually win anything except technical awards (or perhaps a writing nod if the Academy is inclined to go that route).

I know, I think people are thinking it will win because of all the hype

I saw it at the discount theater just last weekend. I think the next time I'll see it will be on DVD, even though it's still playing.

Only because he is dead. If he was still alive there is no way his performance would get an Oscar. It is the definition of average.

If Ledger isn't nominated for Best Actor, no supporting bullshit, and the film itself for Best Picture then I strongly suggest to every studio that they not bother putting any even vaguely Sci-Fi or Fantasy related film up for nomination ever again.

Oh how I hope Star Trek has this kind of legs!

It won't have, but that's another conversation entirely. All I hope for is that it's good. If it flops then at least the last Star Trek ever made won't be "These Are the Voyages".

"Best Actor" and "Best Supporting Actor" are categories strictly designated by billing. Ledger did not have top billing, so it is impossible for him to be nominated for Best Actor.
