No privacy curtains in sickbay?

Laura Cynthia Chambers

This is one thing that doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't the beds in sickbay have privacy curtains so patients can recover without being stared at by visitors? Someone could walk in during an officer taking the Robbiani dermal-optic test and completely embarrass them.

There's no privacy in ST whatsoever. Ezri replicates a gun who's sights allow her to see people through the bulkheads, in their quarters. The doctor intrudes in B'elanna's shower. Garak enters Julian's program. How can you expect privacy?

We have it now in ERs, so it's not like privacy will be a 25th century invention.

I think that given the many differents ways one has to spy on another, they've decided to give it up and save themselves a lot of aggravation. Besides; secret codes are useless when a random alien can figure out how to use your computer and bypass your codes in about two minutes top.

Because its TV and they spent a lot of money on sets, and don't want to block them.

They could be pushed back when not in use, or when people were flooding into sickbay and triage was paramount. But if Ensign Borowitz is being helped to use a bedpan while Specialist Nowak is suffering from food poisoning, you would hope that they wouldn't have to look at each other while they are taken care of.

In both cases they are treated with the magic tricorder.

Whenever Spock or Kirk are injured, it seems like they are in a private room in sickbay. IN ST:WoK, Midshipman Preston was in a separate room when McCoy was performing surgery on him. Odd how "another room" occurred to the writers, but "privacy curtain" did not.

In the future, enlightened humanity will have moved beyond our primitive and quaint notions of privacy and modesty.

Well, you can always beam the pee out of the guy.

I think this is standard practice. That's why we never see any bathrooms. Waste just gets beamed right out of you... and then recycled into raw material for the food synthesizers.

Both statements make perfect sense.

And if there were any bathrooms, they wouldn't have separate partitions, either. Just a bunch of toilets and a urinal trough all out in plain view.

In fact, it wouldn't even be a separate room. It would just be a completely open area adjacent to the corridor.

The privacy curtains are one way force fields you can see out but you can't see in . Only the tv audience can see both ways

In the twenty third century nobody really wanted privacy as we're all above any kind of embarrassment! :shifty:

projectile vomiting stopped after the exorcist, I then they thought there was no need for curtains as such. curtains is just on stage.. right ... wait their stage had no curtains as well ... mmmm I just don't remember I will have to watch this over The_Conscience_of_the_King but I know Data and tng - had no curtains in the theater remember the Riker play? very well done play.. in a psychward but in his head. what was that episode called?
edit:
to quote the episode I am watching ... "The curtain rises! It rises! There's no time to sleep!" - Lenore, weeping over her father's corpse mmmm I have yet to see a curtain call int the episode...===forever is just a day. so at 4:50 left in the show they say "curtain going up 1 minute" --- dag I should of remembered so they have that curtain going on I was wrong.
