No one listens to Worf

He shows reservations about dicking around with the "void" in "Where Silence has Lease" and is pretty much told he's being a baby. In the end messing around with the void ended up trapping the crew with a malevolent being who intended to perform actions on the crew that's kill half of them and prompted Picard to activate the self-destruct of the ship. In that one episode listening to Worf would've been a very, very, good idea.

On the other hand, Worf in that episode appeared to be menstruating, or undergoing some Klingon thing amounting to same.

He starts out attempting to decapitate his XO, and showing remarkable difficulty in understanding the spoken word. In the background, his CO is quite worried about his "Klingon psyche" - a worry that seems to pan out when he recommends going to yellow alert for no good reason, then quoting a Klingon children's tale, then begging for permission to fire a photon torpedo still for no good reason. He's still twitchy and at a failure to explain himself when going aboard the fake Yamato, and then falls to pieces when confronted by a maze.

I'd hardly consider that confused writing or anything like that - it appeared to be a major plot point that Worf was off kilter in the episode, right from the teaser. It's just too bad that we were never given an explanation to what was going on! But we could assume Worf would keep on having these odd days every now and then. Unless it was a bout of Klingon puberty, and the species has it easy...

That's an intereseting post. I was aware of this, but it somehow left my mind after viewing. Very strange indeed. Perhaps a build-up to the Icarus Factor? I'd like to hear the writers' original intentions.

Which was totally lame since previous episodes indicated he was one of the best shots on the ship. That's one thing I hated about TNG...they made Worf lame. He almost nver won a fight. Compare that to DS9 where Worf went toe to toe with the Jem'Hadar and kicked their asses especially in that two part episode where he was forced to fight Jem'hadar in an arena.

One moment in TNG that made me facepalm was how quickly Worf was taken down by the portly Sir Guy in "Q-Pid." To me that was the height of it.

Which is so uneven considering how Worf once shot down a missile with phasers. Sure, computers might have helped there, but Worf was relieved/satisfied judging by his reaction when he nailed it, and it's still an impressive targeting feat in any sense.

Michael Dorn is aware of this. Read the att Q&A from his recent Winnipeg appearance.

Haha, that's great! Thanks for sharing. If Dorn says it's funny, it's funny -- no need for apologists here.

I saw that two-parter arena episode! Worf was so badass in it. :techman:

I LOVE Worf, I love anything Klingon. A lot of people say that Klingons have been used too much, they are boring and things like that. But I love them, love him. Most of my favorite TNG and DS9 episodes revolve around Klingons and ENT had some good ones too.
If I was Picard, I'd listen to Worf much more :klingon:

I showed this to my kid and he was deeply shocked that no one listens to Worf and that he never noticed this as he just finished TNG last year. Do you think it's similar in DS9? You could probably make a Jadzia never listens to Worf vid pretty easily.

I would think there wouldn't be one for Worf on DS9, but rather that there'd be plenty of material to make a video called "Everyone Hurt O'Brien" :)

Yeah, but O'Brien was a more interesting version. At least he could get a woman.

A good woman, too! O'Brien couldn't operate without Keiko. But even with Keiko, O'Brien seemed to get hurt more often than the other crew, for some reason. Even offscreen, he'd suffer an injury in the holosuite.

And let's not forget that Good Women was prone to possession. She got possessed at least twice, if not 3 times. I guess she was competing with Deanna's Mind-Raping record

Genuinely interested: I remember the Pah-Wraiths, and I remember Miles getting possessed a few times, but when was Keiko's other possession?

(and if you say "pregnancy", you'll gain my approval but not much else)

LOL, no I wasn't referring to Molly and Yoshi as being possessions. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, TNG I see a rerun here and there, but, never done a full rewatch. I thought I remembered both she and Miles being possessed in TNG at different times?

I love how Worf was just *barely* a match for Molly-possessed Keiko in Disaster. The guy pulled through in a cinch, gotta give him that.
