No one cares American Idol died?

I wished they hadn't added a "like" system at all.
1. You get people whoring for likes and using it for dick waving fodder.
2. It's not good for sufferers of depression. They get to feel worthless because they feel like no one likes them because they're not getting any "likes" and if some gives them a "like" they get to feel even more worthless because they feel like its an undeserved pity "like".

I would imagine that the people with the most likes, are mostly receiving them from the same ten people. The idea being that the like system encourages you to make friends... and be nice.

It's not my cup of tea.

Yup. Virtual circle jerking.

It's partly for lazy people who want to pretend to be part of a discussion but not actually taking part in it by giving a virtual head nod and it's partly giving out gold stars like kindergarten teacher.

The people who'd get despondent because no one is "liking" there posts probably shouldn't be posting here anyways and seeking professional help. That's a silly thing to get upset about.

There should be an unlike button. I resent only having the option to like stuff. My heart is 75% hate. It's going to waste.

This is one of the best posts I've ever read in any thread, anywhere. Like is not enough.

Face Off is a lot of fun, and that form of competition requires an intense degree of skill. I could never do that sort of thing, sadly. :rommie: But it's been interesting that over the course of ten seasons, some of the artists who did the best weren't necessarily in the profession of make-up and SFX. One of my favorite champions was a cake decorator. :D So it's fair to say that even without a degree of professional training, one could still accomplish a great deal.

On topic....

I kinda sorta care that American Idol died. I've liked a lot of the voices that came out of the show but stopped watching regularly around Season 5. That friggin' Taylor Hicks won over Chris Daughtry was a travesty that showed me what a joke the show became so fast. I didn't really watch for all the gimmicky hosts like Ellen, Mariah or Nikki. From what I saw of the later seasons I think they found good replacements with Jennifer, Keith and Harry eventually. You're all right though that it was a bad sign that Simon left and the show lost a lot at that point.

Kelly Clarkson quickly became and still is one of my favorite musical artists after she won in 2002. She can mold her voice to so many genres and seems like such a naturally nice, down to earth person. I'm glad she got to set the precedent for all the idols that followed. The video of her singing her hits that she recorded for the AI Finale just highlighted how many HUGE hits she's had in the last 14 years or so since she's won. I do enjoy a few of the WgwGs too. Lee DeWyze, despite not being a real commercial success, has some great music. He's pretty good live too. Phillip Phillips gets regular rotation on my iPod as well.

Anyway...I can't say I'll miss AI because I haven't really watched it in the last decade or so, but I'm a little sad that it's gone.

Kinda late to jump into this, but I haven't watched since season 5-ish. Especially after The Voice started, the quality of singers in AI just pales in comparison.

I know after being on the internet for 20+ years I shouldn't be surprised, but it does still register when people comment on a thread like this just to say they don't care. The beginning of this thread reads like an attempt to compete for a "Who can appear to care the least" contest.

I was sucked into American Idol in the second season by my then wife. I really liked Ruben and was happy he won. However, that season started the trend of runner-ups doing better than the winners.

I watched for a few more seasons with my ex and daughter, but quickly gave up.

It did have its moments. There were likable contestants, as well as the ones you watched eager to see kicked off. Some of the celebrity guests were great.

I just think it got too into its own hype. Aside from Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, it never seemed to kick-start careers the way it thought it did. It also proclaimed it was THE way to get into the music business, but most of today's stars don't owe anything to American Idol. And the less I have to see Ryan Seacrest, the better. He was one of the main reasons I couldn't stomach the show anymore.

Many who posted seemed to like the Voice better. I wonder how much of its existence it owes to American Idol paving the way.

I think its the opposite. America Idol do not allow non-amateur singers in the competition, which forces the better semi-pro singers to join The Voice instead. I'ld say that it is this rule that caused the downfall of American Idol; all the good singers went to The Voice and the audience for singing competition followed suit.

No. The title of this thread is "No one cares American Idol died?" and people were answering the op's question.

But not the OP's intent, which was to discuss the Idol finale. That's splitting hairs. Besides, those who took it as an invitation to respond, "Yes, you're right, no one cares" seemed to treat it as a competition to find out who cared the least.
