No one cares American Idol died?

Okay, just tried reading the opening post again.

Is it just me, or is he upset because they didn't ban white people from auditioning and/or making it the final rounds (or whatever it is they did)? Admittedly I only know the show from reputation so I dunno the details on how it works, but that certainly seems to be what he's upset about.

I'm not sure about hashtags, but I discovered that typing another poster's name with "@" (e.g., @Arrrrgggh) has a couple of benefits on the new board...you get an auto-complete drop-down after you type a few characters, and it gives the poster an alert that they've been mentioned.

I thought American Idol was mildly interesting. I have to wonder if there will someday be a revival. Or maybe I should say a recycling of the concept.
Well, the show itself was basically an overblown talent contest show, and there have been talent contest shows before it. I'm sure there will be others after it. I just hope they're not as overblown and self-important.

Saw no one live-posted on American Idol....

A few of my tweets:

  1. Hey @NBCTheVoice - learn from @AmericanIdol and NURTURE #diversity, or you'll soon have a #VoiceFarewell like the #IdolFarewell. #WhitesWin
  2. Just realized there have been NO Asian- or Latino-American @AmericanIdol winners, and only 1/3 black. One reason it's now #IdolFarewell
[*]The rockers really ROCKED it on the #IdolFinale - and how did @OfficialBoBice not win @AmericanIdol again? #IdolFarewell
  3. Now on @AmericanIdol #WhiteGuysWithGuitars - part of what brought us to #IdolFarewell. SOME were REALLY good, not all should've won #WgwG
  4. And THIS is why this is the #IdolFarewell for @AmericanIdol . Too white, and no support for diversity - in sound , performance or looks.

Didn't give a shit, lost interest after the first few seasons.

That being said, you kind of undercut your own point if you complain about too many white guys with guitars and white people in general winning, but then the only person you mention by name who you think should have won is... a white guy with a guitar.

I remember Kelly Clarkson won the first one, then later Justin Guarini was arrested for something. I remember the season where Ruben Studdard won and sold a bunch of albums, and Clay Aiken who came in second sold majillions of albums. Fantasia won a season, and then everything else is either a blur or I don't care. What an impact it has had on me.*

*Sarcasm. Lots of fucking sarcasm goes here.

Yes. The show ONLY lasted 15 years because it's racist towards blacks. Because I Googled and the black population in the USA is 13.2%, so yes race was a factor.... not.

The only thing I couldn't care less about than AI ending is people making up bullshit to why it's ending.

It's ending because it cost more money than the ratings bring in. That simple.

Wait, American Idol had a greater occurrence of non-white winners than percentage of population and this is a lack of diversity?

If the show were race neutral wouldn't percentage of winners by race exactly match percentage of general population?

Yeah, never cared to see singers get yelled at then judged on their looks. I can watch the Voice because the judges are more positive and there's more variety of styles but can't get much into that either.

Not necessarily exactly...and also, let's look at the industry. As a percentage,African AMericans are a significant portion of the successful artists out there. I would think, if AI had developed it correctly, we'd voices & people like that in competition.

To me, all Idol was was an annoying thing that pre-empted shows I wanted to watch.

As for the opening post, I can't read anything that's mostly @s and hashtags. It's unintelligible gibberish to me. Please write in English.

Do you still watch & record on VHS tapes? ;) Welcome to the new reality.

You know, I instinctively just skipped over the opening post. But after reading that, I decided to go try it again and Jesus.

Speaking of, what's up with people using all that hashtag crap in normal forum posts? I see it all the time.
Why #Hashtag? PArt, I am sure it is ingrained..at least in Twitter culture, it is a way to get noticed by people outside of your normal circles... Part, because that helps show up on search engines.

I think it's just you. Our family has notice din recent years how they focus on very few people, and you can tell who they don't care about.

it isn't about banning white people -- it's about finding different kinds of voices, and those who can surprise or thrill us. At the finale, for example, the two white finalists were just awful -- worse than many auditions.

Here's the thing... especially in his semifinal performance -- Bo Bice was excellent. Most people concerned with diversity would have been fine with him winning one year, as long as it wasn't year after year of the same (but blander..again see his performance then, and even now).

I should've mentioned Melinda Doolittle...though her situation, in my opinion, was like the 3 Divas... consistently good, but for the time it mattered for them, fans had been so confident they'd make it through, they didn't bother to vote, becuase they assumed she'd make it easily. In the Doolittle season, fans of the other 2 were so worried their person would be off the show if they didn't vote, that both wound up beating Melinda.

Jessica Sanchez was another one that was really good. I thought I mentioned her too.i might have missed some tweets.

I care. It was a great show. I watched for the first 11 or 12 seasons. I understand that it was still pulling down ratings of 11 million a week near the end but was watched less by younger people.

Some great great voices, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, came out of the show. Some incredible performance as well. I'll never forget the kid who did the Beatles' "She's a Woman". The song started out with a bluegrass arrangement then slowly morphed into a rock anthem. Incredible.

AI was totally innovative, their showing the auditions of people who had NO singing or performing talent and didn't know they didn't, was a revelation in delusional human nature at it's most delusional. That kid, Adam (can't think of his last name) did the best version of Smokey Robinson's "Ooh Baby Baby" I'd heard since the Miracles' original.

But the show lost a lot when Simon left. I almost always agreed with his opinions as long as he didn't start with the whole thing on a performer's "looks'". I just couldn't stand Randy. Paula was okay of for a laugh.

Sorry to see it end.
I think it definitely lost a lot when Simon left... most the replacements were just awful.. some clearly there to promote their own music (i.e.J.Lo).. the only 2 post-Simon I liked were Harry Connick Jr.(did you ever see him...? He provided humor, but also substantial criticism that singers could use), and Nicki Minaj, whose critiques were the most substantial of all the judges with her, and called out Jimmy Iovine when appropriate.

A couple other things that hurt including consolidating the results show with the main show -- they should have put the results somewhere in the middle, so they can draw things out if needed, but then give the "loser" time tossing and remind audiences why they deserved to be on stage. They could also plan a group song that can be deleted if needed.

<whispers> I was just being nice. It really isn't just me. By a long shot.
I'd be very interested in the demographics of those who agree.

Also, it isn't just for the sake of the minority artists - the AUDIENCE wants diversity. Who are the most popular artists? Also, Empire is one of Fox's most popular shows. That should be one audience they should aim to please

American Idol has died. I didn't know he was sick.

Seriously I remember the first few seasons and something about Jennifer Hudson and Amber Riley.

If only it's clones and other reality shows would die as well. They're nothing but attention whores looking for their fifteen minutes of fame followed by morons who can only speak in Facetwit/Booker gibberish.

A lot of the features on this board seem inspired by Facebook.
I wish we had the options to turn those features off. Especially the keyboard diarrhea/profile post thing. If I wanted Facebook and Twitter crap I'd use Facebook and Twitter instead of a forum pandering to Faceberks and Twidiots.
