no more thumbs :(

Ijust watched hte latest review of Indy 4 on Ebert and Roeper (atthemoviestv.com) and tthey have stopped using the thumbs. Now it's "skip it" or "see it".

Well that sucks. And though I agreed with Roeper on the film, he's no Siskel or Ebert. I'd take my neighbors' film reviews over his.

We all know Roger Ebert will no longer do the televised reviews. This is just another step in moving away from the "Siskel & Ebert" days, which I'm not sure is necessarily a bad idea. They came up with the "thumbs" thing, and it should remain with them. Roeper and whoever he has with him -- they're their own thing.

It definitely won't be the same without Ebert, though.

I haven't heard any updates...a year or so back they were hopeful of a certain restoration of Roger's speech with a reconstructed jaw. Did anything ever come of that or is the procedure still pending?

Last I heard, his last surgery was not as successful as they'd hoped for. Rather than endure more potentially risky surgery, he's simply gone back to writing and organizing his film festivals.

Since he and Siskel patented the "Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down" movie review signature, he took the "thumbs" with him when he officially left. But, I noticed they haven't changed the title of the show yet. I find that a little odd.

They stopped using the "thumbs" rating a number of months ago. It's trademarked by Ebert as well as Siskel Enterprises. Wonder if they'll change the title of the show soon?

I hadn't read that his last surgery wasn't so successful. I thought he was doing so well. I hope he beats it.
