No love for Star Trek V?

I've seen TFF only one time so far, but I liked it. It might not be among the best ST movies, but it's still good actually in my opinion. I think it has lots of philosophy, but also some nice action sequences. And boy, the intro sequence with Sybok and this peasant fellow, it's pure gold! I don't know how it is in the original tone, but at least the german synchro makes this scene, despite the fact it's actually quite deep and meaningfull, so damn funny. I knew it already before I really got into Star Trek from a good friend of mine who actually brought me to ST. He has shown me the scene like four or five years ago and nowadays it is still a joke between him and me to parody the scene almost each time we meet each other :D

I can see that, actually. Given Rick Berman's attitude about music for the various TV series. Ron Jones got fired during TNG's 4th season because he couldn't dial it back. It's not hard to imagine Goldsmith might have found working on the features under Berman equally constraining. And when they couldn't get him for Generations they happily fell back on Dennis McCarthy (at least it would still sound recognizably TNG, right? Even if not really in a good way).
I have to also admit, I thought James Horner's Star Trek score was more of my liking than Goldsmith's.

You've mentioned Dennis McCarthy. I loved his score for Generations, it had a grand western approach to the tune, it's one of my favorite score right behind Leonard Rosenman, but my top guy is James Horner.
