I mean, I figure the series will be 6 episodes anyway...

of course they do, but yeah ITV 2 would show all 6 episodes, but then just not bother making a 2nd series.

Shows do occasionally get cancelled mid-run, but I don't remember too many.
I'm not sure how many episodes there is, but ITV are pretty set on keeping most shows 6 episodes. Occasionally shows will get longer runs, like Primeval with 8 and Law and Order with 12 or 13, but mostly they're staying with 6.
