No Christmas Special, May Be New Year's Day?

I will be greatly amused if it turns out that the Christmas special was simply delayed one day. All of that fanfare and outrage about Chibnall ruining the series and other general silly hubbub over nothing will look even more ridiculous in hindsight.

That won’t stop them.

Silence in the Message Board as it were.

That last one was pretty brilliant, in a historical setting and keeping Christmas otherwise on the side. Chibnall seems happy to make his era is playing it safe in so many other ways - like Jodie can't make the Doctor her own, she's having to do what amounts to tenth Doctor mannerisms and scripts, so why not use the previous xmas special as a template and have the TARDIS land in the past on the day? Surely no other historical events happened on Christmas day?

There are at least six other known events:

Wait, 'out of ideas'? Already? God, Chibnall is frighteningly incompetent!

Or is telling the truth; let's be frank: It's not easy to write fiction, particularly sci-fi. The last time I tried, I was in high school, the script was even more blatantly derivative than any of his stories, and the instructor still gave it a B+ despite admitting to not understanding all of it. :)

I may be a tad harsh at times, which isn't always fair or right. These stories coming out could have been a lot worse, believe it or not.

Or maybe he's trolling the audience, if there is to be a new year's day episode. And if there is, then even I finally got outdone in terms of cheesy tacky derivative stuff. Other friends were begging for Moffat back after the first week and have already put the new series on the sideburner a couple weeks later all while I continue on in hopes anything will actually improve. But some are giving every episode 10 out of 10. The jokes I could make but won't despite how laughable some episodes have been. At least Chibnall is succeeding in getting a new fanbase. It's typical for every era, actually. But before I get too far, remember that Classic WHO has pitiful episodes some people rate very highly as well. While nobody's expecting 10 episodes of "Blink", we're getting 10 of what largely amount to "Black Orchid", "Meglos", and "The Dominators". Or whatever lackluster, scribbled out, mediocre snoozefest episodes are poor in the writing department but people still like or love - even I don't like all those episodes mentioned.

Even better, in 1982, people were screaming "the wet vet in space". Nowadays it's apparently "Broadchurch in space".

Officially confirmed for New Year's Day in the new DWM.

Odds of it being the only episode in 2019? Pretty good, I'd say.

Isn't the new season supposed to start filming in January? I don't get why Chibnall can't start in January and have ten episodes ready for the fall when Moffat could start in January and have twelve episodes ready for the fall.

Still many calls that Doctor Who is now ruined as the Christmas tradition has now been discarded. But at the end of the day, as long as it's a good story, moving to New Years isn't really a big deal.

My mum struggles to keep up with the plot at the best of times and asks questions throughout. 6pm on Xmas Day after a few G&Ts and some wine and she's even worse. At least at New Year the booze doesn't come out for her until the Hootenanny.

Its become a bit of a Christmas tradition though and I can't help but wonder if the Beeb made the decision before they knew the ratings for the show. I wonder what's on instead? Better not be another Eastenders Christmas episode on top of the one we're already inflicted with, as if we don't have enough of them already.

Before they knew the ratings, probably.

Fandom: DW is getting slaughtered on Xmas by Strictly and Call The Midwife, but Sherlock did great on New Year's! Why can't we have that?
BBC: OK
Fandom: The BBC has ruined Xmas, the sky is falling cos there's no festive special, cos the New Year slot we envied doesn't count!
