Nintendo NX / Switch Discussion

They're actually interested in making money. Maybe they did on a throwaway item like the NES mini, but no way they do it this time.

well, it's a good thing the only relevant game out at launch is at least really fucking good

We need more ethics in video game journalism.

I wasn't going there....... Just It always happens when a new game comes out everyone fawns and gushes like deers in headlights. I'm yet to ever see a brand new AAA game get a score that isn't perfect or negative reviews on a gaming website. Hey they gotta pay the bills and stuff.

Sounds like a personal bias to me. Just grabbed a random list of AAA games from 2016 and their Metacritic scores:
  • Dark Souls 3 -- 89%
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided -- 83%
  • Final Fantasy XV -- 81%
  • Mirror's Edge: Catalyst -- 69%
  • Overwatch -- 91%
  • Street Fighter V -- 77%
  • The Last Guardian -- 82%
  • Uncharted 4 -- 93%
  • XCOM 2 -- 88%
  • Dishonored 2 -- 88%
  • Tom Clancy's The Division -- 80%
Looks like nothing but 10/10s from here.

I heard someone say to all the negatives "but Zelda so that's all you need" to which I saw this response...

If you think paying $360 for a single video game is a good idea, then yes, everything else about the Switch is invalid.

OK I take it back those look like very fair even scores

I mean, true!

I'm not buying one yet and probably won't until it has more of a library. I don't anticipate any JoyCon problems being showstoppers for me as I intend to use it primarily in portable/kickstand modes.

That response ignores the fact that there are games coming out after Zelda. No one is literally buying the Switch just for Zelda.

Well the guy who said but Zelda, clearly is and come on there are people deffo buying this for one game with the hope of it being better down the line and it wouldn't be the first time a particular game drives people to buy a console and I don't mean just in launch. I brought a PS3 after UC2 came out for example (ok, the slim n price cut did help too). A game or two may make be buy a console during its life cycle but I would never buy one on launch for the same reason.

Personally I will wait to see what games will come out and how good they are + some boost to hardware wouldn't be a bad thing but I don't see Nintendo copying MS/Sony upgrade idea apart from a better battery.

On what basis? You don't think the game could possibly be that good?
Nope...
I've played the previous games, they are good, but nothing special...
I think the scores are heavily influenced by the Switch hype, if the game had come out earlier, like 2 years ago when the Wii U needed it, the scores would've been lower...

I admit I've never been a big Zelda fan, but to say they're "nothing special" basically denies the series' well-established legacy. Those games are wicked popular for a reason, even if that reason is lost on me (and you).

And if that was a collection of Horizon reviews you'd probably be losing your shit right now.
Nah, i would be suspicious as well...

Nice video showing what amiibo's will give you:
