Nintendo NX / Switch Discussion

The video was terrible and the name sucks, but I love it. I want to see more of that Mario game.

Have to wait and see more details. Looks neat, but really didn't see any gameplay or learn anything about the power under the hood.

The video wasn't great, but it did what it needed to - quickly and efficiently show the main point of the system: that it can go from a console to handheld experience instantly. All the other things it showed - instant 2-player multiplayer, local multiplayer with another Switch system, etc were bonus. Compare that with the Wii U reveal where many people came out of that thinking it was just the Gamepad that you could add to your existing Wii.

As for the name... I'm still undecided on it. I can understand the reasoning behind the name, but it's kinda... I dunno... not something that an electronic device would be called.

Really, we just want details on the specs and pricing and games.

Formerly called the Nintendo NX

It's being listed here in Australia for preorder

https://www.ebgames.com.au/featured/nintendo-switch

But look at that price. Isn't that like 3 times the retail price for people in the States and such?

How is that possible, and also frame rates, I don't believe you'll get totally smooth FPS on that tiny screen like in the promo videos for this thing. I just don't buy it. Not to mention battery life.

power under the hood.
power-wise, early dev reports are the system is struggling to reach Xbox One level - which is fine for what I need out of a Nintendo system

the new 3D Mario game looks exciting in terms of ostensibly being more open than 3D World

I wonder how it will compare to current high-end tablet's/smartphones...
well, we know already that the native resolution will not be up to par with most modern smartphones (1080p being the de facto standard there), performance-wise it should do very well vs current high-end phones because of optimization Nintendo

It explicitly says it's a placeholder price. Nobody knows how much it's going to be yet.

Framerates will be fine. Battery life, on the other hand, I would be surprised if it's very good.

Yeah sorry I missed that bit on the page, but why such a high value if the price is not yet known?

The video was exactly what Nintendo needed to do to get people talking while still dragging out the details of the system.

I thought it made the system look fun and neat and is a great idea for Nintendo. I can't wait to see more.

Online stores do that to make sure they don't lose money. Amazon has a preorder price match guarantee so if they stuck up the system was $300, games and controllers were $50 and it turns out the system is $500 and the games $60 they lose money. There is no way for the console to be $1000 and the games $120, so EB is just covering themselves while still making sure people know Nintendo has a new system coming out.

Besides that, I don't think preorders actually collect your money up front, so no one's out anything yet. A preorder is basically a promise to pay in exchange for them reserving a unit for you.

Yeah, I'm a bit annoyed by people who are freaking out that the video didn't answer all their questions. It wasn't supposed to. Nintendo isn't saying, "PLUNK DOWN YOUR MONEY BASED ON THIS INFORMATION-FREE SIZZLE REEL!" They're just building hype. We'll get info about price, specs, features, and launch titles over the next few months, I'm sure.

That's fair enough then. But being hardware I still think a wait of at least a year till all the kinks have been ironed out would be good, also to see how much software is released. I mean this could be the next Wii U or Virtual Boy.

Yeah, you lose no matter at all and will only be charged whatever the price is when it ships. The high price is just for the store to protect itself.

However why anyone would preorder a system we know nothing about is silly.
