Officially, "DS" doesn't stand for anything. However, it's clear that it has to mean "Dual Screen".
Yup, Nintendo made sure that they had the safety net of saying it was a third platform incase it tanked. Also means that the "GameBoy" name was kept clean should that happen. It didn't, so they just let the GBA sink off the map.It was also meant to co-exist with the GBA, yet that one disappeared completly...
The whole thing was a horrible marketing mistake that couldn't be corrected before the logo was put on everything. In competing with the "in your face" spirit of Sega, Nintendo had planned to roll out the system with the tag line - "It's Nintendo, dip $%^!"
When they get round to releasing a "DS 2", I think the GameBoy name'll be on it.

Dual Screen
The Gameboy is dead unless Nintendo goes back to only a one screen system.
"I" as in "eye", because it has a camera. The Gameboy is dead unless Nintendo goes back to only a one screen system. The DSi doesn't even have a GBA slot. The better question is does the "I" mean anything besides the fact Nitnendo seems to love the "i" in Wii and now the DSi.
It Japanese for money.
Does anyone have that picture of those Nintendo execs laughing while holding a DS that is spitting out money?
