Niners-Do You Want a Well-Made Trek Series

I'll take well-made Trek any day. My preference, however, would be for a TV series consistent with Trek XI that is not set on the Enterprise. I don't need TOS 2.0 as a regular series. I think Kirk and Spock are great for the new movies, but the characters are not that different from their Prime counterparts that they justify another 100-170 hours of exploration.

I agree... I think a new concept would be the right strategy for TV.

With the modern version of Battlestar Galactica, any new series dealing with Star Trek would need the budget and cast as equal as Battlestar Galactica. This would be a major departure from the series of the past. Simple stages, limited cast members, and very limited amount of people per-show. With the last series of Enterprise, the cost per episode was over one million dollars.

Other than SyFy, I do not see anyone willing to spend as much as 40 to 50 million dollars per season with the production of the series. The other reason, with that much revenue being used to make a season, would the fans will accept.

Feel that Star Trek XI could not be converted into a new Star Trek series. It was just a movie that cannot reboot the next movie, being Star Trek XII. It cannot reboot a new series. It was to produce large revenue with a summer movie. If there was a Star Trek XII, and it was to reboot for a new series it could be done. Just that, it would not be as popular as Star Trek XI and therefore it would be deemed a failure that could kill any hope it would produce a new series.

My feeling, that TOS and with the movies did produce TNG as a new series. It was the ability to have TNG going to spinoffs with DS9, Voyager and then Enterprise. When Enterprise became a standalone Star Trek series, it just came to an end.

Sure we can have a Star Trek XII dealing with Voyager, just that, who really wants a Voyager as The Next Generation that gets lost itself with the same identical name as Voyager. We could have a Star Trek XII dealing with Deep Space 9. Just that I feel the characters on the show have moved on with life. Second, do we really want a Deep Space 9 movie with the problems of say 2430’s?

What Star Trek needs is a break, a long one. Not the same length as was between TOS and TNG but a relatively long one. Give the franchise some time to cool off, then come back with a new series. Oh, and set it in the Prime Universe, not Abramstrek. That movie was awful!

After that break, I'd definitely watch it, as long as Andorians featured heavily in it. ;)

The TNG/DS9 era has cooled off for 7 1/2 years now.

But you can't continue TNG, DS9 or VOY. Each of them had definite closure, especially DS9 and VOY. Sisko's Return would make for a great feature film, but it would not be with all of the DS9 characters, because they are spread everywhere in the galaxy.

No. I liked the movie, and would like to see more movies. That and the books keep it going just fine for me. I think a TV would have too much fail potential right now.

^
I also liked the movie. I've also enjoyed the "Relaunch" books as they have served well as a continuation of the series. The characters have developed much farther in a way that the series sometimes had trouble with.
Maybe a new series some 5 - 10 years down the road. As stated above the chance of failure I feel would be pretty high right now.

Oh, heck no!

I want a well-made Trek series that reboots Abrams' awful reboot.:)

Til that happens, I don't consider Abrams' reboot to be canon.:techman:

Of course I realize what I want wouldn't happen because money, not artistic quality, drives what will be done with the Trek brand...but I won't dumb-down my wants to accomodate what might actually happen in reality.

Yes, I want Trek back on TV. Specifically, I want DS9 back on TV but I know that's about as likely as a Jem'hadar junket to Risa, so I'm willing to be reasonable and root for a series based on Trek XI, in the 23rd C, Starfleet crew going boldly, nothing fancy just back to basics Trek.

Why would anyone want a reboot series? The only reason for the reboot in the Abrams film is so they can use Kirk and Spock again.

They rebooted Trek so they could make lots of money again. Kirk and Spock were merely means to that end. As long as they didn't stray too far from what they've started, they might be able to use a TV series as a means to the same end (although probably not with Kirk and Spock except maybe in "event" episodes.)

I would only watch becuase I am starved for a new trek series.

As I was quoted before the Nu-trek came out: "I would watch it if it was Barney the Dinosaur with a combadge."

Same here. :bolian:
