so they took the old anime, remastered it, and cut out all the fluff?

or is this a whole new show? Redrawn and animated, but a condensed version of the orignal? Mr. Satan still in it?

From what I know, it's a little of both--a remastered, no fluff version, but with new animation for certain scenes. Almost all of the original voice actors were rehired for the English dub, according to the article.

I've never been really a Dragonball fan, but I've been oddly enough liking it more as I get older. Kai seems like a great chance for those who missed out on the original Dragonball Z series (like me) to see it in a more condensed form, I guess. I'm really more curious about the new Voltron Panthera Force series though.

Great job sticking to live-action, Cartoon Network...
:techman:

Why not come out and say it; Cartoon Network is dying, or at least forgetting its mission statement. At least the 'Original Movies' are based on animated shows seen on it.

So...Dragonball Z with all the stuff that made it a tedious, boring show taken out and the good stuff left in? I may just have to watch that.

CN only has two live actions remaining... And boy, do they suck! Those belong on Discovery Kids or... MTV Pre-Teen... Dude What Would Happen is pretty much Jackass Lite.

Couple of questions is there any information for the new Voltron series? Like character or mechanical designs? How far does Dragonball Kai go does it just go up to the Frieza saga?

Maybe if there is enough interest in new Voltron...and live action film will happen in the near future...unless one is in the works now I am unaware of.

There has been a Voltron movie in development for a number of years now, but problems (i.e., rights issues) between the original Japanese producers and the U.S. producers who remade it for Western audiences derailed it for a bit. Last I heard, the project was back on track but like the proposed Robotech live-action movie, it may take years before production actually begins.

As far as any details about Voltron Panthera Force, nothing has been given so far. There were rumors of that there had been one in production, but aside that it will deal with five new cadets piloting robot lion (or perhaps panther?) ships, that's about it currently. Not even the animation style has been announced yet...

Dragonball Z Kai? Seriously? Why do american companies think it's necessary to slap the damn Z on anything with an adult Son Goku? They renamed and renumbered the later Dragonball manga volumes and now they're renaming Dragonball Kai for no good reason at all.

^^
Lets hope Michael Bay has nothing to do with a Votron movie.

scrap plans to reboot via bigscreen

TV and toys set to relaunch 'Voltron'
Latest project to scrap plans to reboot via bigscreen
Jun. 7, 2010,
The reintroduction of "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" will begin with an animated series on Nicktoons and a new toy line from Mattel rather than leap straight onto the bigscreen.

Series will remain faithful to the old show, while introducing new recruits to fight alongside the original characters.

26 half-hour episodes of "Voltron Force,"

That's the plan from rights holders World Event Prods and Classic Media,

I've been watching Dragonball Z Kai and I like the new cut. Goku doesn't run down that bridge for 20 episodes anymore. All his little side diversions like falling off while he was asleep or stopping at that snake princess place is gone. The training of the Z fighters up at the Guardian's place is all accelerated. They cut out the clock chamber scene where they fight Saiyans in the past.

I'm liking Kai, but am still thinking of picking up Z uncut at some point. It's a bit like Z is the novelization and Kai the movie---though not *that* movie.:wtf:

I think, fluff and filler-wise, it's important to remember that we all originally saw Z in fits and spurts. I first saw the pre-Funimation dub in syndie circa 1993-4 and it only went up to Namek and the arrival of the Ginyu--add to that the syndie station had no idea of the running order. Then, when it came to CN, it was often many months - in one case a year or more, IIRC, before we saw new eps. The CN Toonami Mascot even joked about it in a promo. Even with all the filler, I have to believe if all 291 eps had been ready to show at about 5 days a week, the sidelines would have been a bit more tolerable. The original DB had some sidelines, but that was half the eps and shown almost all at once, comparatively speaking.

new VOLTRON movie in development

I think the Voltron live-action movie may be dead again.
June 10th, 2010
Voltron producers Richard Suckle and Ted Koplar confirmed to MTV that the live-action feature film adaptation is still in development, and that a new screenwriter would be announced soon
Suckle confirmed that once they hire a new screenwriter, they will start completely from scratch and not incorporate any of the ideas from previous drafts. So what is the pitch for the new producers?

Meh I wouldn't hold my breath on either a live action Voltron or Robotech movie. As for Voltron force I predict it will have horrid mechanical and character designs.
