Nickelodeon sets Avatar: Last Airbender sequel for 2011

I find the look interesting. I definitely see where others are coming from by saying she looks masculine...at the very least, she doesn't look like your typical female cartoon. She's muscular, longer in the face, sharply featured, not curvy, etc. But I don't know that it's a bad thing either. Avatar was known for its strong female characters. I think they're continuing that and being pretty daring in having an atypical looking female lead.

Exactly. The female leads on this show have consistently been the most badass fighters, so it's not unreasonable to have a female lead who's distinctly muscular, who actually looks the part, in contrast to the typical cartoon action heroines who are drawn as anorexic waifs yet are still somehow able to perform superhuman physical feats. The designers should be commended for defying the stereotypes.

And there's certainly no reason why a woman can't be muscular and still be feminine. There are plenty of beautiful female bodybuilders and athletes out there. Korra's build here reminds me somewhat of Venus Williams.

Korra is supposed to be older than the kids in the first show, so the look fits.

I recently watched the entire A:TLA show first the first time with my kids, and it was far better than I expected. So my kids and & are definitely looking forward to this.
 
The city is called United Republic and it was founded by Aang and Zuko.

The two guys in the poster with Korra are Mako (firebender) and Bolin (earthbender), and they are brothers.

The polar bear dog is female and her name is Naga.

Bolin has a pet fire ferret named Paboo.

There will be new flying bison and new lemurs.

There will be two seasons -- season 1 will have 12 episodes, season 2 will have 14 episodes.

Aang and Katara had three kids, Tenzin being the youngest and only airbender.

Tenzin has three kids of his own.

Anti-benders use chi-blocking.

There are metalbending cops.

Toph traveled the world to teach metalbending after the war was over, and her daughter Bei Fong is the chief of police.

There will be mixed martial arts in the series, and the music was described as 1920s jazz invented by the Chinese.

Looks fantastic. Great to see the return of this world and this animation style, but with new ideas and elements brought to it, like the more urban setting.

So is Tenzin being the only airbender their justification for keeping the "Last Airbender" part of the original title even though it doesn't make any sense? Darn James Cameron, hogging the title "Avatar" for himself...

IIRC, all three of Tenzin's children are airbenders.

And the title makes no less sense than "Star Trek" for Deep Space 9*. ;)

*Note: DS9 is my favorite Trek! Don't rip me to shreds Niners, please...

The difference being that it wasn't their choice, it was something forced on them by external circumstances. And it wasn't a case where there was a clearly superior alternative. It would've made perfect sense to name the two series Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra; those are meaningful subtitles for two separate series within what should've been called the Avatar universe. But going from Avatar: The Last Airbender to The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra is wrenching and awkward.

Looks like just one city. Water Tribes still look backwards as before.

And the city looks more like EarthMetal Bending + Fire Nation tech = Asian Steampunk.

It isn't even steampunk, it is more Art Deco-punk. If you look closely you can see power lines, street lights, and gasoline cars.
