I am so far from being interested in 4k that by the time i do take a look at it, 8k will be the norm. lol
Would they have Meyer involved if all they were doing was a bare-bones theatrical version? At the very least he'd ask them about it (and would be saying if they weren't).
Actually, during the Blu-Ray audio commentary, Meyer is shocked to discover that he is viewing the theatrical version (as opposed to his Director's Cut).
It's both -- you're correct, the 2002 DVD commentary was indeed re-edited to fit the theatrical version, plus the newly-recorded (at the time) track with Meyer and Manny Coto is also there. (The Undiscovered Country's Director's Cut commentary is likewise re-edited for that BD, too.)IIRC it's that the original DVD commentary is on the blu ray and thus edited to fit.
So they are going to release it as BD as well as 4K.The TWOK release is set for June 7 according to Amazon Canada.

I hope it has all the deleted scenes from that UCLA(?) print, ideally from the original rushes. I'm not holding my breath though. No, it is a new 4K restoration being released on regular Blu-ray for now.
There are no solid plans to release it in the new UHD format as of yet.
This version has both cuts on a single branching disc.
The new format hasn't worked out the bugs for branching as of yet.
This release will be the first time the DC will be onBluray. A lot of folks are hoping that it will include some new extras like deleted scenes.
Or at least a color palette closer to the earlier home video releases.

Who knows if the film elements even exist of those scenes anymore? (Although the fact that scenes could be located to create the Director's Edition is promising).
UCLA doesn't have a print of them, incidentally -- their copy originates from a video cassette.
Thanks for the clarification. I realized after I posted that there has been no announcement about a UHD release. People began speculating about it. I guess I was assuming (and you know what that does!) that there'd be a UHD release but no BD release, but of course that makes no sense, business-wise.No, it is a new 4K restoration being released on regular Blu-ray for now.

Right, thanks for clarifying. Was the extended DVD from the negs or just the print assembled for the TV broadcast?
