NHL Play Off Prediction thread

I just can't believe 4th Hanson Bro picked Chicago.

I can't believe you didn't.

At least your team made it to the playoffs. What happened to the goaltending tonight? I get up to take a piss and I missed 3 goals.
Lack of coverage, defensemen pinching at bad times and an uncharacteristically off night for Luongo was the perfect recipe for disaster. Jeez, that third period was ugly.

Man the Canucks are frustrating - some nights they look like world beaters and others they look bush league.

Oh well, the season has to be considered a success after being written off by many pundits (one writer in Toronto picked us to finish 28th this year, lol) and going on to win the division and get in to the second round. Seems there is still a ton of work to do though.

Well, unfortuanetly the three or four sleeping goal scorers on the Caps have woken up. Game 7 is going to be brutal.
I have the sinking feeling that game 6 was the Penguins' best (and only?) chance of putting the Capitals away. The Caps are too good to be handed this "lease on life" -- I think it's only a matter of time before they have a break-out game...

...let's hope that I'm wrong.

3 game 7's in the remaining series. I'm hoping for at least one multi-OT game, just to make my hockey pants go that much crazier. :D

-sigh-

I knew the Red Wings would lose last night. They always get too confident when they get ahead in a series and decide to relax and it ends up costing them. They started playing harder near the end of the game but it was too late.

I was PISSED last night. They'd better win this series and if not, the blame will most likely go to that goal that wasn't counted.

What's so special about [Crosby]? I don't see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from Chicago ... [Kane] is a much more interesting player. The way he moves, his deking abilities, his thinking on the ice and his anticipation of the play is so superb.

I think that if you take any player, even if he is "dead wood," and start promoting him, you'll get a star. Especially if he scores 100 points. No one is going to care about anyone else. No one is going to care whether he possesses great skill. Let's say you put someone in front of the net and let him deflect pucks in, and he scored 50 goals; everyone will say "Wow!" and then hand him a $10 million per year contract. That's what they like here.
He was very wrong.

Somewhere before this season, nearly every hockey fan/analyst/player outside of Pittsburgh seemed to have gotten it into their heads that Crosby was overrated. They all jumped on the Ovie-bandwagon and endlessly trashed Sid. This series has been proof-positive that neither of these men is overrated-- but if one is the better player, it's Sid.

More importantly, the ratings have been through the roof throughout the series, and there can't be a hockey fan alive who doesn't want to see the Caps and Pens duke it out in the 2010 playoffs. Such an amazing series on every level, and a great draw for new fans.

Oh, and: "Elvis has just left the building!"

Thats what annoys me more than anything, it seems like their curse.
and its frustrating as hell...
:brickwall: x38 years of it for me.

Found this, and it cracked me up. Not Ovechkin's finest moment of the series. :guffaw::

Yes, it's good to be wrong sometimes.:)

I truly thought that if you gave Washington one more chance, they would capitalize (no pun intended). Definitely Fleury's big save at 3:01 lifted the Pens, then the 2 goals on 8 seconds deflated the Caps.

Conference Finals:

West:
#2 Detroit Red Wings vs. #4 Chicago Blackhawks

East:
#4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #6 Carolina Hurricanes

I say:
Detroit in 6
Pittsburgh in 6

Followed by some deja vu.

Wow, all of a sudden I'm looking like a genius for pi cking up Staal, Whitney and Jokinen in my playoff pool!

I'm going to say:
Detroit in 6
Pittsburgh in 5

Rematch of last year's Stanley Cup finals.

Give me

Chicago in 6
Pittsburgh in 6

You picked the Wings to lose to Columbus and Anaheim. Do you have something against the Wings ?

As a die-hard Avalanche fan, the answer is an unqualified YES. Any time the Wings lose is a good day for me.

For this year's playoffs, Columbus had played Detroit really well in the regular season, were playing well going in, and have a good coach. Anaheim was on a roll and playing better than any 8 seed I've ever seen.

As for Chicago, I think they're coming together and stand a really good chance of sending the Wings to the links.

I say:

Pittsburgh in 7
Detroit in 6

Being a pessimistic Pittsburgh sports fan (I love and support my teams, but I can't help but feel like they are "not quite good enough" to win the big one) I do worry quite a bit about the Hurricanes. They played Pittsburgh late in the season and were one of the few (two or three) teams who had a dominant performance against the Pens during the final two months of the regular season...but of course it was only one game.

If Pittsburgh does get past Carolina, I'm heartened by the fact that The Wings look very beatable this year, es evidenced by the 7-game series with the Ducks...of course if the wings blow out the Hawks in 4 games and Pittsburgh struggles against the 'Canes, it could make for another ugly finals.
