I'm walking past a television at work when something catches my eye. Geoff Molson is on TV and he's announcing that Pierre Gauthier has been fired as GM of the Habs...

YES!!! :techman: I was ready to dance in the aisles.

I can see how a Habs fan would be happy. As a Leafs fan I'm looking forward to a similar news release about Burke.

A friend of mine pointed out this fake Brian Burke twitter feed. BrianBurkeGM

Here's an example of a recent tweet:
My condolences to Pierre Gauthier on getting fired by the #Habs. Thank God I don't work for an organization that wants to win. #Leafs#NHL

Disgruntled Leafs fan or Leaf hater?

Either way, it's probably exactly what Burke was thinking.

I read an interesting article a week or so back where they interviewed several business profs at various universities and all said, in any other business, or any other sports organisation for that matter, that Burke would have been out on his ear by now. Further, that the new ownership, being that it's Bell and Rogers (still don't get that one entirely...) will probably be far more demanding than the bloody Teacher's Pension Fund.

I think this exchange from last night's Sharks Postgame show is a perfect showing of the frustration of Sharks fans lately after watching the team suck again for two night's in a row in games they had to win:

I agree with Ray Ratto here. The Sharks don't look like they have a Game Plan, they can't score, and last night I didn't see much of an effort that I would expect from a sharks team. I'm kind of hoping they don't make the playoffs, so major changes can be made in the offseason, like firing McLellen.

Don't get me wrong, I've always liked Drew Remenda and thing he and Randy are two of the best announcers in the game, but last night Remenda came across as a major homer that I'm starting to not tolerate.

Well, that's it for the Jets this season. We're officially out now. Toronto, thanks for the assist tonight. Montreal... damn you!

:p

All things being considered, I think we're in a good place for next season. Just need to figure out how to win on the road a bit more.

These teams hate each other so much that it's awesome :D

It was Old Time Hockey at its finest. Dave Schultz and Eddie Shore would have been proud.

The five-on-five, plus coaches, melee, with just 1:03 remaining on Sunday afternoon, was the dessert to a scrumptious and satisfying 6-4 comeback win for the Flyers. The late-game fireworks will serve as the appetizer to the impending and mouth-watering Eastern Conference quarterfinal death match between the two ill-humored rivals.

By the time all stitches and blows are tallied at the end of April, as the Flyers and Penguins could meet a total of nine times after a best-of-seven series, a small part of Pennsylvania may be in ruins.

^I think I'm going to have to tune if for that series. Should be good.

The Senators clinched a playoff spot yesterday. It looks like they'll be facing Boston though so I don't hold out too much hope for the second round. Still, for what was supposed to be a rebuilding year I can't complain!

With only two Canadian teams making the playoffs... Well, I won't be cheering for Ottawa, that's for sure.

Just two Canadian teams? Wow, I haven't really been paying attention. That's awful.

Huge week for the Sharks. 5 teams battling for like 3 more playoff spots. I say they have to win at least two of these games. Anything more than that, and I might be looking at cleaning house for the team this summer. Really wish they weren't in this position however and actually played better like they were supposed to.

Exactly. Most teams are at 81 games, a few are at 80 so it's just jockeying for position now. All I can do is cheer for Vancouver since I can`t care for Ottawa.

And I really hope that the league changes the playoff format when they do the conference realignments. It`s rather silly to me. For example, right now LA and Florida are both ranked third in their respective conferences (for leading their divisions) despite the fact that they`re actually both seventh in their conferences for points.

I don't care for either Canadian team going into the playoffs. I'll be cheering for the underdog.

Josan, I have been saying for years they need to change that. It really does seem like a way to sneak a lesser team, especially in the Southeast, into the playoffs. The team will most likely get eliminated in the first round and add nothing of value.

Hmm. Should we start a playoffs thread or just keep it in here? Hockey isn't as popular as the other sports on these boards it seems so this thread is probably fine.

Either way... Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in the first round. I don't like either team but that match-up has the potential to be very, very nasty.

I'll be the first to lay down some predictions:

Kings over Canucks in 7
Blues over Sharks in 7
Blackhawks over Coyotes in 6
Predators over Red Wings in 7

Rangers over Senators in 5
Bruins over Capitals in 6
Devils over Panthers in 5
Penguins over Flyers in 7

Canucks in 6
Blues in 5
Coyotes in 7
Red Wings in 7

Senators in 7
Capitals in 7
Devils over Panthers in 5
Penguins in 7 (and it will be a nasty series)
