NHL 2010/2011 season....

Not sure Lupul addresses the scoring problem. He hasn't played much due to having back problems and surgery. And he's not a centre that Kessel so desperately needs. I'm actually very disappointed that Kessel's slump lead to him playing on a line with Grabovski and Kulemin which meant MacArthur got bumped. I'd never has broken that line up.

And I'd much rather have moved Komisarek instead of Beauchemin but then you have to give something to get something I guess. Ah well. Yes, it was good for the Leafs to get a decent prospect in Gradiner.

Now if only Burke could pull off a miracle and get rid of the over-paid dead weight that is Komisarek. And you never know... he did manage to get rid of Blake and Toskala and experts everywhere in the sports world thought that was impossible.

Cooke gets 4 games for hitting Tyutin from behind. Here's an interesting recap of some of Cooke's "transgressions" over the years. Watch the Don Cherry clip - done last year after the Savard hit. He even mentions, "what if Crosby gets hit like this?"

The Avalanche, struggling with injuries, lack of depth on the blue line, and inconsistent goaltending have decided Peter Forsberg is indeed the answer, signing him to a contract through the end of the season. Once he gets the proper visa, he can join the team, probably Friday night. On the scale of franchise changing moves, this will surely rank right up there with the trade for Patrick Roy.

Maybe Burke needs to sit down with Alex Anthopoulos and get some tips. ;)

Anyway, yeah, I tend to agree about Lupul. He's had some good numbers in the past, but is pretty unproven for now. Sounds like he'll be on a line with Bozak and MacArthur, though, which could work out well, we'll see. One of the big pluses may end up being the fact that this could lead to Versteeg becoming available to deal, we'll see...

Mike Fisher goes to Nashville for a 1st rounder (!!) and a conditional pick.

Pretty decent pickup for the Preds.

I don't really like a first rounder for Fisher. He's a decent pickup, but he's not going to make the offensive difference if Nashville gets into a low-scoring playoff battle against, say, Vancouver. That said, good for him... he gets to be closer to his wife, I guess.

I think Burke wanted to take a risk of Gardiner more than Lupul. If Lupul pans out, then that's great, but the potential upside to a Dman like Gardiner is huge.

I wonder if his Wife had any impact on the trade. I mean she's said she didn't want to live in Ottawa, and right now, she's pretty big in the city where Fisher just got traded to.

It's just as much a PR move as an improvement on their lineup for the Preds, for sure.

1st rounder does seem steep though - if that's what the market is then I don't foresee many big names moving as we get closer to the deadline.

Sweet. Zombie. Jebus. Tonight's projected line-up versus the Kings:

Dupuis - Staal - Kennedy
Sterling - Jeffrey - Johnson
Rupp - Talbot - Conner
Craig - Vitale - Adams

3rd Liner - 3rd Liner - 3rd Liner
AHLer - AHLer - AHLer
Goon - 4th Liner - AHLer
AHLer - AHLer - 4th Liner

:ack:

Hey, anything that gets the Preds good PR and raises their profile in Nashville is a good thing I figure. Certainly wouldn't hurt attendance if Carrie Underwood started becoming a regular at games.

That's all I have to contribute as a hockey neophyte that has a rooting attachment. Go Predators! :D

The first five seconds of this video basically sum up my reaction to this. I'm sympathetic like that.

Yeah. No sympathy from this Leafs fan, either.

Also, if Fisher is worth a first-round pick, I can't help but wonder what Kris Versteeg is worth...

I wonder if he requested it to be near his smokin' hot wife?
on the other hand I now have 3 injured players in my pool and was tied for 103rd out of 220+ :borg:

Forsberg is expected to play tonight against the Jackets. Unfortunately I don't think it's on national tv. I'd love to see this one.
